Tomb Raider [2013] Benchmark Tool with Frametime and FPS Charts.

Thread Starter
I have been playing around with doing my own benchmarks with frame times, mostly to get a better understanding of it.

I've been using the latest Tomb Raider, mostly because I have it smile.gif and it's new and using DX11, but also because it's got a benchmark built in.

So I started writing some small app to record FPS and frame times while the benchmark is running and I ended up with something that might be interesting to others as well.

Down side is that it requires Tomb Raider installed and as far as I know there are no demo versions that could be used.

Anyway, this is what it looks like:

It requires FRAPS installed and running to capture the FPS etc, free version is fine.

It then generates results like this (can be saved directly as a jpg)

Let me know if anyone is interested, then I'll clean it up a bit and attach it. I would be interested in seeing how other hardware configuration perform.

OK, I have cleaned it up and made it smaller.

You can download it here: TombRaiderBenchmarkV0.2.0.zip 135k .zip file

Just remember that it requires TombRaider and FRAPS to work.

1. Click the browse button and locate the TombRaider.exe file. If you got it on Steam, it will be under ...\Steam\SteamApps\Common\ something. The background will turn green when you have located the file.

2. Make sure you got FRAPS running. Iit will turn green and say Running as soon as it's detected.

3. Select a preset or just leave it default for the benchmark with multiple runs in different qualities.

4. Click the "Run Benchmark" button. and wait for it to finish.

5. Click the save button and save the result jpg.

6. Post the results smile.gif

I might do some top 10, guess I'm at the top at the moment biggrin.gif

Great, it will be interesting to see if it actually works for anyone besides me smile.gif

I guess I forgot to mention I ran mine with a HD 7970.

Updated to latest drivers (AMD Catalyst 13.3 BETA 2), they really make a huge difference, the previous runs were with the previously latest drivers.

HD 7970 @ 1200/1700:

No real difference in average fps, but the jittery frame times are nearly eliminated.

I get a bunch of errors trying to run it. I get access denied to c: unless I run as an administrator, and then if I do run as administrator I get a Steam error (Game is already running). I also got a bunch of .net errors one time, but I didn't copy them down. Does it matter where you run the tool from?

Edit: Okay, it's only the default 4 run one that causes the app already running errors (looks like it is trying to run all 4 instances at the same time). But even running the single test still yields weird results.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Thanks for testing, yeah, there seem to be a problem with the (default) combined runs and I'll try get rid of the administrator requirement, I can work around that. Are you on Win 7 or 8?

That chart you got does indeed look very strange. Does it make any difference if you close it down, then reopen and do a single run on e.g. Ultra?

I guess there could be some different behavior between AMD and Nvidia, I have only tested with AMD on Win 7.

Win 7 and I tried it a few different times with similar results.

After clicking Run Benchmark I get an unhandled exception.

v0.2.0 executable.

This is with Win 8. I tried running it with As Administrator under Windows 7 and XP-SP3 compatibility, but no luck. I have received this with both "Benchmark HD" and "Ultra" presets.

Well running Windows 8 pro 64bit it worked just fine with the right click + run as admin method. Noticing high quality ain't that bad besides hair lol. Interested in others' runs cool tool as well.

Interested in what the scores would be for non latest patch and the second latest nvidia beta drivers, max with no AA and TressFX used to get me ~32-40 fps on the benchmark at 1440p
