PCI Express 1.0 vs 2.0 or greater for overclocking and general performance

I wanted to know if running a GTX 670 on PCI Express 1.1 (GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L) would reduce overclocking capabilities along with any general performance loss I may be seeing.

I'd be more worried about the CPU than the PCI-E lanes........ But the lane break down is this PCI-E 1.0 16X = 2.0 8X and even though most think they're using 16X PCI-E lanes most Intel rigs actually drop down to dual 8X lanes on our current "performance" socket 1155 boards . (there are a few exceptions, oh and x79 has massive lanes and is "Enthusiast" )

In short not really as slong as it's a 16X PCI-E 1.0, maybe at best 10% but nothing bigger than what you CPU will affect you. *edit* Unless you love Dirt it seems........then maybe more than 10% tongue.gif

*update* Here you go with some info on current games on a 7970. thumb.gif

PCIe Bandwidth Comparison (Each Direction)
PCIe 1.x --- PCIe 2.x --- PCIe 3.0
x1 250MB/sec -- 500MB/sec -- 1GB/sec
x2 500MB/sec -- 1GB/sec -- 2GB/sec
x4 1GB/sec -- 2GB/sec -- 4GB/sec
x8 2GB/sec -- 4GB/sec -- 8GB/sec
x16 4GB/sec -- 8GB/sec -- 16GB/sec

So 4X PCI-E 3.0 (the Purple one) is 16X PCI-E 1.0.

Wow, thanks that is actually some good info. By the way I'm running a Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3333 MHz

It will hold you back of course but don't worry about it too much, just avoid too many MMO's. tongue.gif (they're the biggest CPU offenders)

In either case nice OC on that CPU, enjoy your card. thumb.gif OH and I forgot to say that's on a 7970, I'll edit my earlier post to reflect that.
