It may sound weird, but one simple way of dimming/filtering LEDs is with plain white Elmer's glue. Either dab some on each LED bulb, or dip them if you can. It worked on my Sunbeam Rheobus fan controller (the one with LEDs that light up an entire room). One application, still solid after 14 months, but if I wanted I could peel it off pretty easily.
