Upgrading to Windows 8 from 7 worth it?

Thread Starter
I've been toying with the idea of upgrading to Windows 8 and use Start8 to get rid of the modern UI nonsense but I'm not sure whether it's worth it. Is it worth £50 or should I stick with Windows 7 Pro. Try your hardest to persuade/dissuade me thumb.gif

If you're going to install 8 and use start8 with it then why bother with Windows 8 in the first place?

Just stick with 7. Use 8 on a new build if you want, but really not worth the upgrade price now. When it was a cheap upgrade it was great for upgrading from say, vista or xp. Windows 7 is still fine.

use windows 7.
I have both and i hate windows 8 start menu even if you remove it it's weird.

From a performance point I can't tell you which one is better though. Maybe Windows 8 is better.

If you have windows 7 already wait for windows 9

I used to run windows 8 on my nvidia surround but after a month waiting for nvidia "awesome" driver support I quit and went back to windows 7. But I just got a HD 7950 and now run eyefinity. Now I'm most likely to go back to windows 8 cuz their multi monitor software is much better than windows 7's. smile.gif

With Start8 or any other like program Windows 7 and 8 operate 95% the same. Windows 8 is better optimized for SSD's which is nice. Is it worth £50, probably not, but if you can get your hands on a copy for free or close to it I would give it a spin. I like it on my Sig Rig.

The boot times are better w/ SSD in win8. I've resisted using any add-ons to 8 and it's not that bad. Still sucks. But not that bad.

I got Windows 8 Pro upgrade for $15 (2 actually). Installed one copy on a HTPC. Tried it for a few days and went back to Windows 7.
Wanted Windows 8 on my Netbook, but does not work due to the small screen resolution.

I am staying on Windows 7 till something better comes out, and for me Windows 8 is not it.

Windows 8 is better performance wise, boot-up times are much better. And in some games, you may notice a small difference (when you benchmark). But there really are too many things I miss about Windows 7, I regret buying 8 and selling 7. It feels fresh, but it wears off and just becomes annoying.

Windows 8 is for tablets, touch-screens and would never existed in it's "metro" form if it wasn't for Apple. And the price jump recently is huge, no-one wants it, but by all means try before you buy... Some love, some hate...
