Clock settings compared to stress results

Thread Starter
I just started overclocking my first GPU today. I believe I am doing everything correctly. I am definitely a noob. thumb.gif

So in EVGA's "Precision X" software I push the core clock and memory clock up a bit then stress test for awhile, then log my findings and move on. I've done 5 trials so far.

On some, the results came out very close but just under desired clock:
set to: GPU 827 MHz Memory 2007 MHz
resulted in: core 826mhz - memory 2004mhz

Another time the result came out higher than desired clock (spec. memory).
And yet another time the GPU clock came out perfect while the memory clock was 5 mhz short of the desired clock.

Why is this? Is there a more precise method to this madness? Because I just keep pushing 5 mhz on each every time and get no artifacts. Is this correct?

EVGA GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 2GB ...... btw

Thanks!

Your methodology is good.
I found V4 of Precision X buggy, reverted back to previous release: http://www.techspot.com/downloads/5348-evga-precision-x.html

Thanks. I need to learn more about processors and voltage and clock speeds. It isn't enough for know THAT something works. I need to know HOW and WHY something works. It's a gift and a curse. haha
