[TweakTown] Motorola X Phone will feature multiple models, small price tags

The new rumors are saying that the X Phone will launch with an extremely low price point, possibly as low as $199. This low cost helps to explain why the device is said to only be coming with a Snapdragon S4 Pro, 2GB of RAM, a 4.65-inch display, and a 2,200mAh battery. It's not a bad phone in terms of specs, but it isn't the best.

It's actually really attractive, though, when you consider the rumored price. We'll probably hear more about this device at Google I/O. Oh, did I forget to mention that it's rumored that there will be multiple models? According to the rumor, we can expect a range of devices to launch under the brand of X Phone.

Google and Motorola should make this happen in a big way. This has the potential to make some big waves among the Android base especially if the devices are CDMA/LTE compatible. Motorola's Droid brand was almost synonymous with Android on the Verizon network but right now the Samsung Galaxy line has taken a large number of those potential upgrades. I think both Motorola and Google need this just so that the competition remains strong among manufacturers.

Solid phone on the hardware specs, but it seems like a nexus phone. Not good in my opinion. The market needs more innovation. Frankly, the S3 with that massive battery back feels great in the hand.

That is one of the downsides. Nexus phones are great in their own way, especially for those that want the Google designed Android experience. However, for many people the addition of an MicroSD slot, removable battery and manufacturer specific OS features are more important. The majority of phone users want a phone that works, can take decent pictures, allows them to play games, browse the web and listen to their music anywhere. Those users don't care about a vanilla OS or unlocked bootloaders. Google and Motorola need to make some smart decisions because Samsung is following the tried and true formula of minor changes until your product absolutely needs to be re-imagined.

That is why I'm hoping it is at least CDMA compatible in the US with Verizon. If these phones turn out to be a reality I may be switching from my iPhone 4S soon.

wow 200$ is really nothing for those specs! If this ends up being true, i will actually be able to upgrade my Galaxy Nexus without emptying my wallet biggrin.gif

I'm pretty excited about this. Suppose to come out in June right when my contract ends. $200 for those specs and no contract count me in.
