Sapphire dual fan 7870 Ghz Ed vs Powercolor 7870 Tahiti for 1080p - Page 2

Now, what if I decided to go with Powercolor's AX7950? I was looking at 1920x1080 benchmarks and the difference is pretty minimal between the Tahiti LE and this 7950

After MIR the price difference would be $65.

Depends on what you're looking for down the road.

If you're going to stay at 1080p for a good while, then a 2GB card is more than fine; if you were planning on a multi-monitor setup or getting a 1440p display then I'd consider spending a bit more now.
Only reason I'd get that reference card though is if you were interested in water blocks, on it's own it's not a great cooler (sad, b/c AMD blower ref. coolers are great...loud..but great lol).

Surely hope it isn't as loud as a reference 6970 @ 100% fan... Anyways, one last question:

What is the difference between these two Powercolor cards?

It wouldn't be, the ref 7950 coolers aren't as loud - but they're not nearly as effective as the reference (blower-style) coolers.
I still don't know why they went with such a cheap solution for the ref 7950 yet didn't do the same with the 7870 when it launched.

As for your question b/t the 2x 7870 LEs:

Only difference are the components used on the cards / coolers; the Myst Edition is supposed to use better components (here's a review).

The second one isn't completely hideous. Oh, and come "better" but mostly trivial component swaps.

if you are getting a HD 7950 get a custom cooler card. the sapphire HD 7950 boost uses a reference APCB design and has a very good cooler. USD 290 (270 after mail in rebate). 29 cm long. So make sure it can fit in your case.

I went ahead and purchased the 7870 Tahiti LE. I think I will be satisfied with this product coming from a GTX 460 se.
