Okay. I read somewhere than the 70s was the limit for these chips otherwise they throttle. I guess I can hit a little higher. 4ghz seems to be a nice oc not needing many extra vcore even though I want 4.4 or 4.5 to get better performance.

Hey man just take a breath and relax. I know how aggravating it can be. Especially on my Asrock Z77 Extreme4 board which reports voltages completely wrong and has a hard time holding a stable OC. Temps were horrible and I could only go to 4.2Ghz so I said screw it and delidded and now I don't have to worry about temps anymore on my ivy bridge.

Just take a step back and a deep breath. If I were you I would used a fixed voltage to find out what you need to be stable. Once you find out then you start messing around with offsets and all of that stuff. Start low and then work your way up .1Ghz at a time so you can learn how your chips acts and what it needs for different speeds. You will get it. It just takes time and patience. My chip takes 1.536v to be stable at 4.8Ghz. We aren't all lucky enough to get a golden chip.

Hey thanks for the encouragement. I have been trying fixed voltages. Nothing was working. Going back to 4.2 has brought my temps down to high 60's to high 70s and once in a while dipping to 81-82. I guess my H100i is just junk at cooling properly. I can't delid a 3930k I don't think, and I don't want to mess with that. I have horrible luck and would most certainly mess it up, that's why I don't do hardcore real water cooling either.

Anyway I guess until I can find a better water cooler, it's off to 4.2ghz for me. Strangely enough I can get volts around 1.25-1.26 and it works fine? But the second I go up to 4.4 everything is unacceptable to the system. I have to keep going higher and higher volts, got to 1.38 and gave up because not even that was stable.

No you can't delid a 3930k, its soldered. tongue.gif


What are your voltages and settings in BIOS:
vcore
vtt
vccsa

Have you set XMP profile with correct DRAM voltage ? Its a huge jump from 4.2 to 4.4 ghz, requires much more volt, I would say 1.34v for 4.4 Ghz in most cases



I use 1.37vcore for 4.6 Ghz, VTT at 1.125v and VCCSA at 1.05v

I had vcore above 1.37 and it still wasn't stable. bsod 101 crashes

vtt and vccsa were 1.25 so I could get my ram above 2133

Using xmp and it found the right timings and voltage.

I think I'm happy at 4.2 right now. I keep pushing my vcore lower and it's stable so far. 1.24 vcore

I would maybe try lower VTT and lower VCCSA, not always good to have it too high. Usually people can run 4.5 Ghz with VTT and VCCSa under 1.2v

0x109 = Not enough or too Much memory voltage

0x7E = Corrupted OS file, possibly from overclocking. Run sfc /scannow and chkdsk /r

BSOD Codes for SandyBridge
0x124 = add/remove vcore or QPI/VTT voltage (usually Vcore, once it was QPI/VTT)
0x101 = add more vcore
0x50 = RAM timings/Frequency add DDR3 voltage or add QPI/VTT
0x1E = add more vcore

From what I read I had to set it to that just so the memory could oc to 2400

Maybe in a few hours if I'm in the mood I will go up again. Right now trying to find the lowest vcore possible for 4.2ghz with vtt and 1.25 and vccsa at 1.20

I would really love to keep pushing higher but my temps start to skyrocket too much.
