Is 1.36 vcore too much for 3930k 4.4ghz? - Page 5

Took your advice, temps are better now. Core 5 still goes up to 81 on occt testing... but at least I'm stable at vcore of 1.26. With those high temps though I don't want to push my 4.2 up any higher. Oh well.

I guess my H100i is just junk at cooling properly. I can't delid a 3930k I don't think, and I don't want to mess with that. I have horrible luck and would most certainly mess it up, that's why I don't do hardcore real water cooling either.

Anyway I guess until I can find a better water cooler, it's off to 4.2ghz for me. Strangely enough I can get volts around 1.25-1.26 and it works fine? But the second I go up to 4.4 everything is unacceptable to the system. I have to keep going higher and higher volts, got to 1.38 and gave up because not even that was stable.

No you can't delid a 3930k. I was just saying that there is ususally always a solution to a problem. For you it might be to buy a better water cooling set-up. Could you post some pics of your BIOS settings so we can see exactly what your settings are? Anyways, REP to you for not quitting and for going through the same struggles that I have gone through. Oh yea, VERY important to sleep. I know it might eat away at you at night, but TRUST me. Sleep is a huge part of success.

Stupid question but... how do you take screenshots of the bios? Is there a hotkey for it? I don't have a digital camera.

I agree I do need a better cooler. So until then, I'll just keep messing around with a 4.2ghz clock and try to be happy.

With a FAT32 formatted USB drive, press F12 to take a screen shot. Select the USB drive to save the image to.

Okay thanks guys, appreciate all the help and hand holding. Going to take a break for a few hours and enjoy my computer for now. So far a quick stability test is good with:

ddr3-2133

1.275 vcore

vccsa 1.20

dram 1.65

cpu pll 1.85

Take a rest bud thumb.gif great work so far,

I would put VCCSA at 1.10v and VTT at 1.20v (the opposite of you) but that is just from my experience

Also keep this in mind
Quote:
If overclocking past DDR3-2000, then finding the optimal delta between CPU vcore and VCCSA becomes critical with some memory modules. Hence, we recommend making small changes and monitoring for impact upon stability. It is probably wise not to exceed a voltage delta larger than 0.6V between VDIMM (DRAM) and VCCSA, so if VDIMM is set to 1.65V, then set VCCSA at around 1.05V minimum as a starting point AND also try to keep VCCSA within 0.3V of Vcore if possible.

So far it's working great with those voltage changes.

Any other suggestions and tips to lower some of the numbers and get a better heat signature? Don't want to go higher as my temps are within a good range.

Should I turn off the power saving C states? Any other tips?

Basically I run Flight Sim X, it's an old game that's heavily CPU dependent. So I need all the help I can get.

Again, computer works fine with 2400 memory, reboots okay, tests okay, but if I turn off my computer. Then wait a while and back on again, it refuses to post and boots in a loop. So I downclocked the memory to 2133 and it works fine again. Ugh
