From the comments to the video:

My god, you're upset because I was to see happy to see a video upload from a Maxis dev showing a fix for traffic routing issue, that is likely to be patched in soon?

Oh I get it, I was supposed to not be happy to see the progress they are making towards an issue I had with the game and whine incessantly anyway?

Also, the comment you quoted is whatever.

I'm quite sure that if I could travel across a motorway with a higher speed limit vs a dirt road to get to work in the morning, I wouldn't be taking the dirt road.

The point of the routing fix is to make it so that sims are likely to take the faster road, not the shorter one.

I don't even know why you're making this a thing lmao.

I'm happy that they're fixing the problem. I don't know why that's an issue for you, but please find a way to deal with it as best you can.

It's kind of amazing. All these SC threads tend to have the same people posting the exact same things over and over again with nobody ever changing anyone's mind, yet they never cease to amuse. At this point, I believe SC has indirectly entertained me more than if I had actually bought the game.

GlassBox = The engine = Every facet of the game that enables it to work as designed by the devs.

She states that the ENGINE drives the economics (global market, region related), trading (region related), buildings (when sharing vehicles and RCI demand, region related) and the OVERALL simulation (i.e. EVERYTHING that goes into making the game run as intended).

The engine drives these things. That is not directly equivalent to a person saying the server runs these things.

Then, there's the statement about a massive amount of computing that goes into the subject of the statement (I.e the engine) and that GlassBox (the engine) works by attributing portions of the computing to EA server, and some on the players local computer.

This statement does not at any point specify that the amount of computing done either locally or in the cloud. It states that the ENGINE does a large amount of computing and that the overall is shared between local and remote pcs.

If I say studying for x qualification requires a massive amount of effort and the way I study is to attribute portions of my studying to being in class and home learning, at no point have I given you a statement that shows proportionally how I divide that effort.

If somebody was to approach me angrily after reading that and assuming that I meant that most of the effort was going to be in class and they therefore didn't do enough work at home because they assumed that I was saying "study more at class than at home" (or vice versa), despite me not actually stating any kind of specifics about how I balanced my efforts......it means I'm a liar?

And to add further to this, from the very same article we are quoting, she outlines exactly how the servers are implemented in terms of affecting gameplay:
She outlines what is handled via server.

She outlines specifically that what id done via server is sent to your city on your PC.

I am sorry, I am going to be honest with you. I tried to break it apart with the biggest detail I could, maybe making you understand what the problem is but you seem to be too much of a person that can't accept the fact that he is wrong. It is just a matter of personality and I can't have a discussion neither a logical argument with a person like you.

But to be honest my main goal was for the rest to be able to see what the problem is and since I see that some people can get the facts straight I am quite happy by that and it is beyond my strength to try to remove your blindfold and make you accept that you are wrong.

You are just a person that can't accept being wrong and as many others have noted it is easily seen in other posts of your as well so what I am going to do is to end this argument right now. There is absolutely no way to make you think logically but since some others can do that I am going to be happy for contributing to them.

You may take this backing off from me as a win for you, I have no problem with that. I am just trying to be totally honest, you are not a logical person for someone to make an argument with. I hope my words won't offend you but I truthfully believe that is true and that is my honest opinion.

I have greatly enjoyed the schadenfreude. I will also greatly enjoy the free Dead Space 3 and in six months time will probably be mildly entertained by a hopefully somewhat fully patched SimCity. I have definitely learned my lesson though. No more preorders, no more day one purchases. And to everyone who thinks Azzer or any other modder will be patching the game to be fully playable offline with region play and local saves, you still have no reading comprehension. He was referring to Maxis being easily capable of making an fully offline patch, not himself. rolleyes.gif

Cheetah speed wasn't only disabled for 24 hours (whoever said that). It's still disabled and you probably just think it's working. Even though you hit 3 and see the 3 arrows lit, that doesn't mean it's working. It's still going at llama speed.

Indeed it is. I just wasn't paying attention since of late my cities have all either been in a financial nightmare where time isn't on my side or doing well enough to where I didn't notice. Now I want Cheetah back, I need to go another 19 years to deal with this radiation.

If making the game completely playable offline is so super easy and simple, why have the modders not done it yet? Why go as far as telling us all how easy it is, and then not do it? What's the hold up?

They've also gotten most of the source code, worked out what the servers are actually doing, that the population count is fudged, why the AI is so bad, real numbers on unique accounts, (1 million or so as of a day or two ago) etc.

And just because it's simple, doesn't mean it's quick..I've only watched a bunch of gameplay videos and you can clearly see that the region play isn't that calculation heavy. You can also tell that by using some logic and common sense, EA is hiring their servers from Amazon and would be paying extra for each CPU calculation done and will want to have the tiniest amount possible...Considering they have to firstly work out the code, write it and then test it..Well, a few days is a bit soon unless you're talking coding teams, the actual code may not be simple even if the logic behind it is, but because the logic is simple it's very possible to do and will no doubt be done.

What I would like to see is a more real-time collaborative multiplayer, where you and a friend can actually work on a single city together. Yes, I realize why this hasn't been done already, but with good communication via VOIP you can avoid the issues behind it (laying something in the way of what your friend was working on etc.)

Of course he will, if EA was smart they'd live and let live, continue updating their version without breaking the mod on purpose, that way he only has to do minor updates..But of course, I bet if he does it will be broken every update through them reordering parts of the code while leaving it functionally the same to create extra work.
The question is: Does it really matter to a lot of people? It'll just create even more EA hate, and people would most likely certainly happy to miss out on patches unless EA goes all Valve on us and puts massive amounts of content in those patches ala TF2.

I'm fighting with density issues. Just "restarted" my city by wiping everything (including plopped buildings) to get my roads right. Only have 150k $ left, but it should be enough considering they only give 50k. It took almost 12 hours to get 50k pop before because I didn't have enough room for my high density buildings. Hopefully it takes half that time to get to 100. Starting and keeping tax @ 6% pending any budget crisis.

I hate that I'm supporting always-on. Meh.

Not even once.

I prolly wont be gaming in 10 years when everyone has switched[always-on]. Or I'll just have to deal. Prolly the former, I've gotten very jaded about gaming lately.
