You guys don't get it. It's their game, their servers, their DRM. You're simply paying for the privilege of being allowed to play on their terms.
Why, the audacity of some users here, thinking they have a say in how the game should be. If I was EA I'd ban the lot of you using any mods, offline or not. Customers these days need to understand they only need to do 2 things: pay up and shut up. Be happy with what you've got and never ask for more.

If they tell you servers are needed then they're needed. If they tell you your dads PC that you're playing on is weak then it's weak. If they say you need DRM then-you-NEED-DRM. These mods that allow you to play offline are against the natural order of things. They're holding us back from the true Nirvana of gaming.

Luckily some here stand up for EA and Maxis. They understand how it us. They understand the effort EA has put into making this experience as difficult as possible. What? You guys think it's easy to lie to customers and pull shenanigans on a daily basis? These guys are pro, they're elite. EA is the best Corporate America has to offer. Pride, prestige, perseverance, greed. In wealth they trust.

The modder just enabled internal dev testing version of the game, which lets developers test their sh.t without requiring a connection to internet.

Redesigning the game for offline play is actually hard work.

The server info has already been analyzed by that same modder, go to one of the previous threads. The info sent to the server according to the analyzation definitely didn't have anything to do with the simulation of 100000 people as Maxis that is why everyone says that Maxis lied about the purpose of their servers and always-online.

NeoGaf member zomgbbqftw posted a very simple how-to on the board detailing how you remove the timer to play offline. Here is the code:

kNoRepeatNetworkAlertSeconds : 15,
kNetDownForceQuitAfterMinutes : 20,

Remove the line and you can play offline. That's it.

Yes, "that's it".

You can remove the line and:

-have access to only one city out of a possible sixteen.
-have absolutely no region play (i.e half the point of SimCity games).
-have your city vanish as soon as you close the game.
-have no ability to play the game with friends/invite friends to play in your region if you ever wanted to

etc

So yeah, apart from half the game missing, simply removing the line of code lets you play offline, but playing a game offline and playing a game that works offline aren't the same thing. If Maxis offered the "modded" game as it plays right now as an "offline mode", the internet rage meter would probably be ten times higher.

I wonder though.

This article and those like it are making it look like modders are actually doing truly significant stuff in order to make any "progress". All they've done so far is find out how to enable a debug mode and edit a line of text to enable you to play a broken version of the game.

If making the game completely playable offline is so super easy and simple, why have the modders not done it yet? Why go as far as telling us all how easy it is, and then not do it? What's the hold up?
