I simply stated that the kinds of posts a lot of people are making make it seem like they are commenting on things they haven't had enough experience with to be making supposed informed commenta about.

By that we can clearly see that it says that GlassBox works by attributing portions of the computing to EA servers in other words some the 100,000 Sims simulation happens in the server and that is as clear as it can get and that's the first lie.

Well what's the second you might ask, the second one is as Kaldari said (and I had forgotten about that one) that Lucy specifically said that Glassbox can track data for up to 100,000 individual Sims inside each city which as well has been proven again and again that , that is a completely false number and only around 1/8 of your population is being simulated.

Nope, you're twisting the words to make them suit what you want them to be.

The term "GlassBox Engine" does not exclusively mean "the servers".

"GlassBox Engine" is not code for "the game running on your pc", therefore your assertion that because Lucy Bradshaw said that the GlassBox engine attributes some of the computing to the servers means she is a liar is false.

The engine DOES work by attributing some computing to the servers and the engine DOES track data for sims in each city.

They did not say the servers track the sims, they said the engine does. The engine is an umbrella word that encompasses all of what makes the game work.

For you to be correct here, Lucy Bradshaw would have had to say "our servers track x amount of sims".

But she didn't and for you to assert that a game engine is directly equivalent to a game server, is wrong.

Aliens CM and now this. It's strangely rewarding to see these two train-wrecks unfold. Pity about the games, but I guess if they had to fail it's better that they failed spectacularly.

As countless others have asked earlier, Grizzleboy, could you please only post if you are willing to provide information about the game and what to expect in the future?

It is getting ridiculous. I dont mind a good debate but selectIvely tryIng to find gaps in the logic of some posts or base your arguments on technicalities is infuriating. If you are the allocated spokesman, and by your dedication to work, it must mean you are, and we are stuck with you at least provide us with accurate dependable information.

This obviously is just a suggestion, and I cannot force you but please show your corporate responsibilty (pun intended) and understand the community in which your corporation does business in.

Finally, a plea to any mods reading this. Please review this user's posting history and you will understand why a lot of us react to his comments. Could you please do something about the situation?

As opposed to people randomly appearing in the middle of an actual discussion to ask someone to stop saying things that they don't like, having not even the a letter, let alone a word or sentence on topic to add? rolleyes.gif

You aren't obligated to read my posts and I am not obligated to post to make you happy.

Put me on ignore if you don't want to read my posts.

I for one appreciate GrizzleBoy's contribution. Of course he's wrong but without him this thread would be more boring.

Grizzle: yes, most of the points you make are indeed correct. And you know why ? Because Lucy Bradshaw, much like EA management, talks like true politicians, what they say seems at first specific but when you dig into it you start finding a lot of generalities and thus can't really attribute much of anything to them, let alone ask for much in return.

Welcome to cynical corporate PR talk. You are just pointing out the generalities and letting EA and / or Maxis get away with them. How nice of you.

The problem with you highlighting to everybody all the mistakes you see in people's arguments is that you are literally dodging the main questions all the time. Just like politicians, Lucy Bradshaw doesn't really manage to hide everything from us, because 1. it keeps getting harder and harder to keep track of lies even if some are so buried under generalities you can almost argue that they aren't in fact lies, just "not being very forthcoming"; 2. people actually have the game and can analyse what is going on and determine if the grand picture is as they say or not.

And what are the main questions ?

Does the game really use on-line calculations, thus making a server connection necessary ? No. Each client does its own calculations, the only thing the servers are hosting are the save game files (artificial imposition) and acting as a middleman between two or more clients. Acting as middleman is not the same thing as making calculations. There is no offloading here. No calculations being done on the severs. Period. The only thing your client receives is some raw numbers from other cities and goes along with them for hours or days or weeks, until the other player(s) come back on-line. That is it, there is no real time game-play here. It's only in real time as long as two players are playing at the same time, but that is not even required, and doesn't happen many times.

If you want to be strictly objective about it, yes EA said a lot about what the game would be, even though only now, with the game actually available, do we get to see what those generalities actually mean.

- The engine keeps track of a limited number of Sims. Yes, they said it. What they didn't say is that the simulation is anything but statistically realistic for the others, let alone even for those it supposedly controls. Unlike they said you can't really follow their normal lives from home to work and back, at least if you interpret this in a normal way, unless they meant that you can follow Sims that have a bohemian, anarchic and brainless life, where they sleep in one house one day, in another the next day, go to work each day to a different place, and go wandering endlessly around town if the first job they were walking to gets occupied before they get there, etc.

- Since the game is not really in real time, all the line of argumentation on their part becomes suddenly very weak. The game's essence as it is is weak. Multi-player is not a fundamental aspect of the game because it's not really implemented in a meaningful way, in spite of what they are trying to make it sound. As it is, it is perfectly avoidable. Just make a file with some raw numbers from a fictitious neighbour city and have your single player simulation read from that. There, done, there is your multi-player game. This is what is actually happening when the other players are off-line anyway. Not really very interesting and not really how things work in real life. In real life cities don't stop when the mayor goes home.

So pretending they wanted to make a game that reflects what goes on in real life couldn't be farther from the truth. As it is, multi-player is an interesting touch, a non fundamental add-on, but when it comes to simulation, it's conceptually weak. The moment you allow for it to not be played in real time, all your line of argument hangs by a thread. It's a weak multi-player implementation, understandable, sure, could it have been more ambitious ? Certainly. Does the current implementation really justify the always on-line (save for the 20 minutes graceful period) requirement ? Not at all.

These are the main questions.

He is a well-known supreme EA fanboy....and believe me, I say that after defending quite a few EA titles myself that people love to spew hate on. But SimCity? No freaking way i'm defending that piece of garbage or going near it with a 10-mile pole. I consider myself a fairly reasonable human being, but the straws being grasped by EA and the lies being spewed take only the most naive of the naive to not notice.

Just put him on your ignore list. It'll save you the headache of any past or present garbage EA might release where you'll have to see him defend EA, regardless of the circumstances, to absolutely no end. GrizzleBoy redefines the word, "fanboy." thumb.gif

Some key functions that you can edit which would easily allow you to mod the game (please note I found these simply by opening up a file in notepad contained within the game)
Code:
"InitFromServer()" requests the latest 'configuration' from the server via a URL, change it from requesting the url to a local directory? Local loading done?
"SaveToLocalStorage()" saves the current gamestate to a local directory...
"cannotPlaceOnGroundControl() & cannotPlaceOutsideRadiusControl()" these functions are executed when you can't place an object for X reason, tweak the function for placing anywhere...

Lol?
