I dont know about your POST issue. Could also be a DOA mobo, that happens a lot more than with CPU's.

J/k aside, it's all lookin good. You will really like putting all that stuff under water.

If my fans are to loud for me then that is a serious problem for everyone else then consider I have a serious hearing impairment since from childhood. rolleyes.gif So I doubt it will be to loud for me. I just don't like wasting electricity when I'm not doing anything on my computer.

On note of the POST issue, I looked the board over with a critical eye and could not see anything wrong with it. If its a DOA on the mobo then that means its going to be even more of a pain... redface.gif

So I arrived home about 20 minutes ago. And first thing I did was reseated the CPU did not put the cooler on since I'm just trying to get past the RED LED CPU light to complete a post. Secondly I removed my GPU, loosened all the screws on the mobo then just barely snugged them, made sure 1 stick of ram was seated correctly (I did this for the first POST test also) rolleyes.gif, I also disconnected the Lamptron reset switch, Removed both led jumpers for the Lamptron Power Switch. And still not go without the RED LED for the CPU. Sigh... Seems like my very first buy for a mobo is going to be a DOA... doh.gif So guess I'm going to get in contact with Amazon and see if they are willing to replace it or if I'm going to have to complete a RDM with Asus directly. Since I have only had the mobo for 3 days I'm going to hope Amazon will switch it out.

(Before you do anything I'm about to tell you, install ALL your RAM. RAM problems rarely result in an inability to post. The RAM light would light up if there was a problem, so to eliminate that, plug those sticks in. Make sure you put them into the slots that your manual tells you to. If problems persist after all other steps you're about to read, then we can come back to the RAM and start fiddling with different slot layouts once we have established that everything else is set up properly.)

Then, make sure you used the little stand-off screws (little brass mounting screws with a cylindrical or hexagonal, threaded female end, opposite the threaded screw end of them) to properly mount the motherboard into the case. These are super important and, if not used, the board's back will make contact with the case itself, causing shorts which prevent functionality. I'm not insulting your intelligence, people actually do make these mistakes!

NOW: I had a similar issue (no post) when I tried starting my system up without a fan-cooled CPU cooler installed. ASUS motherboards sometimes freak out if they don't detect a fan connected to the CPU_FAN header on the motherboard, as a safety precaution. So first, try connecting a fan from your Noctua into the fan pin header that says something along the lines of CPU_FAN1 or whatever. It is somewhere along the top edge of the board, usually to the right of the 8-pin CPU power connector up there. Speaking of that, make sure your PSU is connected into this 8-pin power plug at the top of the board. Make sure you use the whole 8-pin thing, and not just 4 of them, since a lot can run on just 4 but 8 eliminates variables for troubleshooting.

Second, make sure your GPU is installed into the FIRST x16 GPU slot, and it has power going to it, and your monitor is connected into the back of it properly.

While you're down along the bottom edge, ensure all your fiddly little wires are plugged into the correct pins for the front-panel power stuff. Check your mobo manual, make sure you use the Q connector it came with.

Finally, with it plugged in as I've instructed, with the system off but power going to the board, press and hold the little black CMOS RESET button (I think it's a button on the Saber) next to the 24-pin main motherboard power plug for about 10 seconds. If it's not this button (I'm looking at pictures of it now), find how to clear the CMOS on your particular board, and do it.

Report back after having done this and we'll try some more tricks. This is all part of the hobby, I've been there myself. Consider it an initiation, you'll get there sooner than you think!

EDITED! I was looking at the wrong version of this board up until this revision! It's correct now.

I appreciate your response. thumb.gif At this time I'm at work and will try thses steps when I arrive home. The reaseon I'm using only 1 stick of ram is just to get a POST to happen. Considering amazon has already stated they will refund for it not working properly I should go ahead with this. But I prefer not to have to wait so if I can spend another hour trouble shooting it to work properly then I'm all for it. biggrin.gif Although I'm working 12 hours today... doh.gif

Some RAM is weird. Sometimes it only likes to be put in a certain slot, or in certain combinations of slots. That's why it's important to install the RAM properly before attempting to get a POST. Partially completing a build and then expecting it to boot isn't the best practice, because then you have no idea what's happened to cause your problems. It takes all of 15 seconds to put the RAM in the slots, so do it. These things can't be rushed unless you want to create more problems down the line. So take your time, young padawan!

I've outlined pretty much everything to eliminate "user error" from the equation, so if this is still a problem after doing these steps, like I said, just post here again and I (and other posters) will let you know if we think there is anything else that can be done. If not, you're well within RMA timeframe so don't sweat it. It'll all come together, it's just a question of time at this point.thumb.gif

Okay so I come home tonight and I do as you say I load up all my ram in the correct outlets even though Asus User guides states can use 1 stick as you said not a big deal what so ever. So check. I then realized I did make an error the 8 pin device on the top of the mobo I did not even plug in... doh.gif last computer I messed with is well over 6 years ago for enthusiasts mobo. I work more on servers and routers. tongue.gif So Check on this one. I completed the GPU in the first slot however the Noctua is so large my GPU can not fit in the first slot beside the Noctua literally will not fit in the pci with out a guarantee arc if I placed it in the PCI-E. So left off the cooler to complete a quick boot. So Check. I also connected both CPU cooling fans to the CPU FAN and CPU OPT. (Check) Made sure all led pins, power and reset are connected correctly to the Q connector. (Check)


1. All Ram (Check)
2. 8 pin top of mobo (Check)
3. Gpu first slot (check)
4. Fans on CPU Fan and CPU OPT (check)
5. Made sure all led pins, power and reset are connected correctly to the Q connector. (Check)

Status on power up well CPU led is gone biggrin.gif Boot device came on but realized on the wrong sata connector user guide states the sata connectors a little weird but I understood after reading further. rolleyes.gif

I look to my screen and what do I see?

Its ALIVE!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Okay a little Frankenstein( And no I don't mean the monster)thumb.gif moment I know, but I'm so stoked its not even funny.

So another great news update. My GPU works fine in the second PCI-E Slot and will still run at x16 not that this GPU has the chance of even bogging down on a x8 cause its so old. But hey use what you got till the funds comes in. rolleyes.gif

Dude! You're all set. And from what you said, it sounds like you've got everything set up as it should be.

Don't even sweat the PCI-E slot thing... That card and that board/CPU will be just fine no matter what slot you put it in. I only said the first one because that's the "standard". As you've discovered, when you're dealing with single cards (even single cards with dual GPU's on them) it's a nonissue, so enjoy.

That cooler is a monster, but it will give you amazing temps, and IMO it looks amazing. I find I like the look of it in person more than in photos online, haha.

But, yeah. So happy to hear it man. As I said, this is somewhere we've ALL been here on the forum, especially during our first builds. It's always the silly little details that bite you in the behind. Think of how much you've learnt already in these past few days/weeks, and it only grows from here!

Matter of what I've learned in the last 48 Hours to be exact. biggrin.gifStill awesome to see and read at this time I'm looking at updating the BIOS, but I'm still working on getting everything reinstalled and taking off the workstation mounts at this time. I was going to go ahead and download the BIOS while working on everything else what are you suggestions about going this route?

Edit: I also do like the Noctua cooler. And you are right this thing is a behemoth. The box it came in I thought had my 2 packs of dual Corsair AF120 fans. I opened it up and saw that beast of a box and was like OMG:lmaosmile. Cant wait to power up. biggrin.gif
