RAM upgrade for Acer TravelMate TMP243-M-6693....Mushkin / Crucial / Corsair or G.Skill ???

Hi Everyone....got a quick question and would be eternally thankful for a little advice.

Just purchased an Acer TravelMate TMP243-M-6693 (NX.V7BAA.001) today on the web,
(The Spec sheets can be found here (if it helps redface.gif) >>>Acer Website or here...BestBuy

Processor Type - Intel Core i5-3210M
Processor Cores - 2
Processor Speed - 2.5 GHz
Processor Cache - 3 MB

Standard Memory - 4 GB
Maximum Memory - 8 GB
Memory Technology - DDR3 SDRAM
Number of Total Memory Slots 2

Anyway....long story short, I'm looking to upgrade the stock RAM prior to it being delivered,
and was wondering if someone would be so kind as to provide a recommendation.

I (think) i am in need of an 8GB Kit (4GBx2) 204-pin SODIMM DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V •
and have found the following on Newegg.
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007608%20600006178%20600000401%20600000410&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=100

Just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction: wheee.gif

Thanks in advance....(and great forum by the way !)

You can't upgrade the ram PRIOR to it being delivered. You will have to do it once it is. You can buy the ram before it is tho...

DDR3 1600 MHz, 35 W) - 4GB DDR3 SDRAM is the ram that it comes with...from the acer site
and the one from best buy clocks in at 1333 MHz...don't know if they are the same products or not.

The last time I had a laptop, the onboard ram I couldn't take out. It had 1 extra slot to add ram. (this was in 2006). You might want to make sure that you can remove the ram that came with it before purchasing 8GBs (your lappy's max) of ram. It says it has 2 slots. Yet one of them might be taken up by the ram it comes with. I would wait until it comes in and remove the panel to see if you can add 2 sticks or just 1. Unless you can find out the info before hand.

Thanks for the reply Del,

I totally worded that wrong tongue.gif.....lol... thanks !

Anyway, really good advice...
its to be delivered on Wednesday so I will hold off on the order until I get a chance to see
what RAM is currently installed, (and how its configured)
as well as run CPU-ID to see if it clocks at 1333 MHz or 1600 MHz.

Will definitely post back once i have those answers,
and hope you can provide a recommendation then.

Thanks so much !

Del...you my friend, are Awesome !!!

Really appreciate that you remembered...biggrin.gif

Ok...so here's the scoop...

The Acer TravelMate TMP243-M-6693 (NX.V7BAA.001) arrived yesterday....
...but having taken your advice to hold off on the purchase (of the RAM),
left me with some free time...where I stumbled upon this....

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530 627255U 15.6" LED Notebook - Intel - Core i7 i7-3632QM 2.2GHz

Specs:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834312165CVF
http://www.frontierpc.com/computers/laptops/notebooks/notebook/lenovo/thinkpad-edge-e530-627255u-notebook-1023875641.html

Comparison:

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530 vs. Acer TravelMate TMP243-M

Intel - Core i7 i7-3632QM 2.2GHz vs. Intel i5-3210M 2.50 GHz
Quad-core (4 Core) vs. Dual-core (2 Core)
6 MB Cache vs. 3 MB Cache
Standard Memory: 4 GB Maximum Memory: 16 GB vs. Standard Memory: 4 GB Maximum Memory: 8 GB

Both feature
Memory Technology: DDR3 SDRAM
Memory Standard: DDR3-1600/PC3-12800
Number of Total Memory Slots: 2

The ThinkPad also has a larger screen / 3 - USB 3.0 Ports and an alpha-numeric keypad....
all for exactly $50.00 more than i what i had paid for the Acer.

Soooo....without even opening the box....
the Acer has been returned and I am now patiently waiting for
my new ThinkPad to be delivered.

If your offer still stands, would love a recommendation for a 16GB kit
rather than just an 8.

Will Post the moment it arrives...

Thanks again,cheers.gif
