So how do you think our current rigs will hold up against next gen games? - Page 5

3840x1620 and sparse grid super sampling are already pushing my rig as it is. Need to wait for a proper game bundle then go SLI.

Considering the above, the 7850 is already struggling in some of the newer games, a great example of this being Crysis 3.. By the beginning of next year I personally expect that you will be dropping settings at least SOME of them to the mediums at 1080p to maintain 50+ FPS. With a decent overclock however you might be able to get the highs but at this date and time it is pretty hard to predict what level PC gaming will be at considering how fast technology is advancing in this day and age.

But for now I say enjoy what you have and enjoy the release of the PS4 and XBOX 720 console ports and moarr games thumb.gif
That's cause usually most are just poorly un-optimized console ports.
Im pretty sure if PC was given the same level of optimization as consoles you could run Crysis 3 high settings at 1080p with 30fps on an HD 7750 with a Intel G645.

True, but only if everybody was using the same components. The reason consoles can get so optomized is because their parts don't change.

Lol you don't get that many frames on max on crysis 3.

Even though I'm about to build a new rig (waiting on the 900D), my rig from 3 years ago can still easily play all modern games. I'm still on an Intel 920 D0, EVGA X58 LE, 6 gigs Dominator, and an ATI 5970. My CPU is underwater, but the video card is on air. At the time spending $600 on a video card was tough, but after 3 years I can say it was an excellent investment. I intend for my new rig to give me the same value. That being said, when you look at the PS4 specs for example, my 3 year old rig should still play all the new games equally as well, never mind the new one I'm building.

PC gaming is a better value to me ,hands down. But PC gaming is a hobby, and it's tough to convert console gamers over. There's a guy at my work that thinks Halo 4 looks amazing, but I think his mind will change this weekend when I show him Infinite and Crysis 3 at 2560x1440. thumb.gif

My 3 year old rig, STILL running strong!
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Actually i do. I would do a run through and post it, but FRAPS kills FPS. How is it hard to believe? A 4.3GHz Quad CPU and a 1Ghz 580...sounds legit to me.

Considering the "next-gen" generation of games is geared to run on an entry-level CPU and a mid-range card, I think those of us who already are running Intel's, Nvidia's, and AMD's latest,. and overclock it, will be fine for the foreseeable future.
