Anyways, 4.0 would be the average max for D0 920s if you wanted OCs that were well below safe voltages. I have yet to see a D0 920 that didn't get 4.0 before 1.4v and even the chip in your sig seems to be a bit below average. With 1.45v (still within safe limits with enough cooling) D0s usually max out in the 4.3GHz range. 860s, 870s, 875Ks and 880s were the chips that maxed out at 4.0 usually.

As for the 8350, assuming 1.55 is the normal safe max voltage I would say that most chips will max out in the 5.0 range, a bit more or a bit less.

It doesn't make sense to selectively disable a feature that has an adoption rate of zero. Before you can sell something to consumers you need to make it worthwhile for developers to implement.

Crap. Typo. I should have been 33% from 4.0-->5.0 5.3. The 5.3Ghz seams to be fairly attainable on a FX-8350 while 4.3 is pretty hard to get on a 920 D0. Yes most 920 will do 4.0 with reasonable voltages but there are plenty of 920 that just flat out refuse to run at over 4.0 speed even when you dump 1.5 vcore on them. Mutch the same way that there are 920 C0 that just wont do 4.0.

But yeah. The 920 is a good chip with mad overhead but the FX-8350 is better by a fair margin from what I have seen.

I've seen one 24/7 5.3 8350 on the net. My chip can barely do 5.2 and that's at -35C which is a huge plus for FX. More at 1.6v but that's not safe anymore now is it.

Honestly almost all 4.0 D0 920s I saw people using were with 1.2-1.35 volts. I certainly never personally OCd a 920 that didn't go over 4.0. I did OC two 860s that didn't but not 920s. Max I ever saw for the 920 was 4.5 stable with 4.6 being relatively stable and with enough cooling going over 4 didn't really seem like a challenge, usually if the chip didn't you needed more vtt/qpi and after that you were sorted. But it definitely was easier hitting 4.0 than it is to hit 5.0 on a piledriver, just look at how many of those we have here and go check the site back in 2010 with google cache, 40% people with 4ghz 920s.

Pretty sick gains on games but the application side seems to be lacking. I bet this thing will overclock like an absolute monster, though. Good stuff! Kinda wish I had waited on getting the 3770k. Owell, tis the dilemma with buying technology these days.

Fair enough. I guess I overestimated the FX-8350 overclockability.

These results shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. The only points of interest (power consumption, overclocking) are absent from this preview. rolleyes.gif
Once again, if you already have a core iAnything, there's not a whole lot of incentive to upgrade.
