Any dog can be an aggressive dick, it's how you raise it. Don't confuse how a dog plays with the mentality, larger dogs play rough as it is in their nature. We beat the crap out dogs round here, but it really isn't beating to them. A full size huskie is going to take a beating like you aren't doing anything, to outsiders it might look like we are being mean. Hell no, that dog will eat it up and come back at us in the same way. Nobody gets hurt, the dog doesn't hurt us and loves the rough attention. One friend even has kids, the dog KNOWS not to play rough with the kids or it will feel a real beating. We make sure it knows when we play or punish, that is the biggest thing to teach.

I actually used to have 2 huge malamutes when I was younger, used to play football with my buddies and they would join in and take a tackle better than half the guys we had there, lol. Some dogs definitely like the rough play.

And yeah, I actually have 2 nieces that climb all over my pitbulls. I've been told I was crazy because of it too, by a lot of people.

One thing you absolutely need to raise a larger dog is confidence. If you aren't confident in your dog, then he won't be confident either. And if he isn't confident, that's when things can get hairy.

I'll stick to my Sig Sauers though, have 2 downstairs at each end of the house and 2 upstairs in the master bedroom ( along with my gun safe upstairs with a few rifles and shotguns ).

I take bets with family at how many murders appear on the news, and in which county every night we watch a show at 8/9/10. Usually there's several murders, 1-2 drug busts and about 10 reported home invasions. You should try living in the states in a drug/gang controlled area. It's not always peachy like in Canada where the only threats are hockey teams tongue.gif

Yup, another thing I tell people is to make sure they understand who the Alpha is. You see people take animals for walks and the dog will race to get out of the door. That is a huge no no, the dog should always wait for you, always. I could do other examples but any good dog owner knows.

The kids thing isn't really that crazy either, as long as when the dog does something wrong you are there to correct it right away. You can punish a dog pretty severely too, because to it you are protecting your young. This helps the dog understand what it is doing, so it knows that if it hurts that child the dog WILL get hurt.

I think it's about the mentality and if you get that down the dog will listen. People don't realize that a large dog can weigh as much or more than the average person. If we can play that rough you bet the dog can and will love it. Just so much as boundaries are set, everything is fine.

That's where things go awry to me, when people stop understanding how big the dog really is. You don't slap a teenager and go "no" expecting it to really be offended do you? I doubt it, so why should you be so elegant with a dog? Have no fear in giving that dog a good beating but don't abuse the dog. Their is a line, just with a 120+ lb animal that line isn't as low as people think.

[edit] I don't own a dog, no space for what I would get. One of my close friends has a ~125lb husky/sheppard mix, another friend has the same thing (closer to 130-140). Both dogs are extremely aggressive and very nice. I look at it as playful, cause that is how they see it. I'll even let the dog nip, bite, I'll play tug of war with my own arm. I'm very comfortable with dogs like that but then again I grew up with them and know when to tell the dog no. I'm also not afraid to push/shove/kick the dog if it angers me, not abusively but enough to send a message.

It's all about society.... down here in NZ nobody has any firearms except hunters/farmers and licensed people, even then they are your standard .22 or shotgun and rarely of any higher caliber. Owning firearms in this country is frowned upon so much that even the Police don't carry firearms of any sort (a Taser at most).

Two sides of the coin, a country full of firearms where everybody and their mother has a shotgun and it's considered the norm. Then theres another country where they are heavily regulated to the point where nobody has them and they are not needed....

I wouldn't mind having a 3D printed firearm for plinking, as long as its cheap. I'll stick with my all-steel CZ for self defense though.

Just bought my first CZ today, a CZ75B in 9mm, such a nice pistol, puts my XD-9 to shame...

yea some people have dogs for home protection, some people have bats. the ones who get guns are the crazy ones that are paranoid and live in fear for some reason. i guess having a dog ripping out chunks from a dudes face or caving a guy's skull in is more preferable than shooting a guy.

like ice cube once said, a gat is a man's best friend

Now remember: it used to be a dog like Lassie
but now in ninety-one it's a gun if you asked me
Just like a jimmy hat's used for protection
I use my nine when suckers start to flexin
Cause if you run up and try to play mine
I'd rather have a AK than ************canine
Cause if you shot your gun, and my dog tried to fetch her
me and the dog's goin out on a stretcher

Freemen own guns, slaves do not. PERIOD. Societies that do not let law abiding citizens own firearms that can match what the average soldier carries are societies on the brink of tryanny.

In addition to self defense, firearms are fun to shoot and are an awesome hobby just like high end computer components. Like firearms the same thing can be argued about high end computer components. You dont need four Titan Gtxs, you dont need multiple displays, you dont need water cooling, you dont need to overclock. And before somebody says you can't kill people with a computer, please think about that for a second. In the hands of an able hacker, far more death and carnage can be dealt with Evil manipulation of computer systems than firearms.

Wonder if we'll see ~$20+shipping lowers from him? In this climate, that'd be especially amusing.

Oh, once upon a time, I remember seeing "blemish" stripped aluminum lowers for $40-45, and complete Polymer lowers for around $100. Oh, wait, that was like, last year.
