2) i definitely think getting the larger vram is a good option, thanks for the advice

honestly, i know this is purely anecdotal and bias, but the last 3 AMD cards i had caused me major headaches, and all 3x i popped in an nvidia card and the problems went away... albeit the most recent AMD card i had was a 5770 tongue.gif or something

I understand what you are saying. I am fairly new to the computer gaming world, and It would be hard for me to go with something that didn't work out in the past. Get the 4gb Nvidia and be happy. I love mine and it is a great card.

NBA 2k13 on the PC is WAY, WAY, WAY better then the 360. I play with a 360 controller, of course. The mods that people come up with are great. If you play it alot, then I would pick it up for the pc. I read somewhere in the last couple of weeks that it could be had for $15. Seems like that was a sale though.

Anyway, just get the 670 and you will be happy.

But huzzug is right, I have a 1440p monitor as well with my 670 2 GB, and in BF3, the VRAM is limiting the card now. If I were in your situation right now, I'd be looking at a 7950. They have 3 GB of VRAM, which is enough for 1440p, and sometimes are on sale for around $270-$300, which is a great deal for that card, along with some free games. Not sure if you're into Crysis 3 or Bioshock, because those are the free games with a 7950.

But a 670 or 7950 would be a nice upgrade from a 470 SLI. You'll have a single card that pulls less watts, less heat, and newer technology.

I agree with the part about the 680 being more expensive, but your logic about the 670 being OC to 680 speeds is sort of moot, considering you can also OC the 680 to a point where it's untouchable by the 670. It really JUST comes down to money, the 680 is a faster card, clock for clock, and it costs more.

Another most costly option is a GTX 680 with 4GB. Faster than the 670, AND with more VRAM so running into the high-resolution texture limits with 2GB won't be an issue.

If it helps I have a regular 2gb gtx 670 and I can run BF3 at 2880×1560 (I think) downsampled to 1080p with no AA just fine and it only dips under 60fps during extreme explosions.

hmmm, i went from a gtx 470 (3-way sli) to a single gtx 670 4gb and would say that a gtx 670 is similar in performance to a gtx 470 sli (1920x1200), although the extra vram is a real plus to the set up tongue.gif . In games like BF3 ive seen vram usage up to about 1700 ~1900 mb with fps at about 65-85 range on ultra. biggrin.gif
