Strange things happen when recording GTA 4

Thread Starter
Hello!
I wanted to make a video of GTA 4 for YouTube, but I found out that when I record I get some random lag spikes. Not the normal game lag, but just I play, play, play and it randomly freezes for some reason. Tried to record with Fraps and MSI Afterburner - both gave me the problem. On other games - I have no problems at all recording.

While I had MSI Afterburner ON I could see my GPU/CPU Usage tho. It seems that my GPU Usage randomly drops to 0 or 20 or whatever and this is why I get these spikes. Also some textures aren't loading properly when recording but that is a known problem of GTA 4.

So I want to ask you what I can do to prevent this random GPU Usage lost. I tried playing with the TDP but it didn't do anything. My CPU usage doesn't drop btw. Only GPU.

Please help! frown.gif

Just tried a few things.

1) Underclocking GPU - didn't work
2) Overclocking GPU - didn't work
3) Undervolting GPU - (100mv is what MSI Afterburner could do) - didn't work
4) Overvolting GPU - same as undervolting
5) Forcing constant voltage - didn't work
6) Setting target FPS at EVGA Precision - didn't work
7) Tried to make the game to not use HT cores - didn't work
8) Tried old Nvidia drivers that worked before - didn't work now.

No clue, I had no trouble recording gta4 in 1080p and then down-scaling it to 720p.

I did after the fact because my internet has a .4mbps upload so I took the file from 1080p over 1gb file down to 720 and lower bitrate to 70mb, pretty huge size difference.

Sorry, I have no real clue. I will kind of just keep responding to help bump tongue.gif

I know you downgraded the drivers, but did you completely remove them?

If it comes down to it, you might need to scrub them, I have never done it, but it seems really tedious.
