Nvidia are a business and although they are not innocent by any means the GTX Titan is a halo product and isnt trying to be anything else. It's the technology of tomorrow, available today. It's not mainstream and not meant for everyone that's whinging about the price. It's meant for people who want to pay the extra for the extra performance, either because they need it (anyone running surround) or admire the product enough to buy it. Even if price doesn't equal extra performance.

I know I've been needing and craving extra performance for months and am glad they did it. If I had the choice between an overpriced product that can offer me what I need performance wise now or nothing. I'd choose the overpriced product being released.

I don't see anyone crying about $30,000 4K TVs. It's simply new technology that isn't available yet, available now and it's the same for the GTX Titan. Not everybody drives supercars but I don't hear everybody whinging about the price of the Ferrari 458. It's demographic is a different market to the Corvette market just like the GTX Titan is appealing to a new market that Nvidia saw the need for. Above the GTX 680 which can not run games maxed at 1080P anymore.

Sure they charged a bit too much for it but the product was an experienment and designed to test the market and it seems to have succeeded. These rumours confirm that Nvidia seems to agree and wants a new product to sit underneath it. Which is good. GTX Titan needs competition even if it is from Nvidia itself.

If you can't afford a GTX Titan get over it and stop complaining. Nobody cares. No product comapres or competes with it, period. This is OCN and the whole reason people are attracted to this place are because of the elite groups of people like Vega with his rediculous surround setups. I'd like to think most of us here have rediculous set ups like that because if we didn't why on earth are you here? You don't join a supercar club with your Ford Focus and then go and mock how much they paid for their awesome cars no do you?

Titan's price of $1000 is the result of lack of competition rather than being the "technology of tomorrow available today". We are basically getting a product that should have been around $500-600 at the most if AMD had a product that would perform as intended for a cool grand.

Indeed. Makes perfect sense from a business standpoint. Instead of releasing GK110 as the 680 and charging $500 for it, push GK104 to compete with the 7970 and then later on release GK110 at $1,000. I don't enjoy spending more on it, but I think that they had a good plan nonetheless. It's just a shame my wallet was the one that suffered tongue.gif

is the GTX Titan the fully unleashed GK110?
isn't there 1 SMX disabled?
I really like the 6GB of usable vram and 384-bit bus
clocked lower than I would have liked but reasons are understandable

that said... who wants the GTS version? (not me)

not surprised since high end cards (regardless of price it seems) sell out fast within the first while

Yes there is one SMX disabled, but that's due to the massive die size, leading to it being HARD to get perfect 15 SMX versions. So they consider 14 SMX to be the "full" card and even all the Tesla K20x at Oak Ridges is like this as well. The Titans are probably the more leaky K20x that didn't past muster for supercomputing and is sold to us instead.

Edited and put bold because I wanted to be clear bold is fact, not opinion. (for gaming). Titan price/performance is horrible unless you are an academic possibly trying to not pay tesla prices for decent compute.

Seems like you didn't really READ my post...I didn't complain of price/performance ratios. I was just saying that the guy can't go saying "hey if you don't spend 4 grand on 4 titans then get outta here sucker, this is OCN and E-PEEN is king". It's an overclocking site for crying out loud! That's all I said. thumb.gif

hahaha wow... Almost sounds religious.

Anyways where to start... People don't need to "get over the pricing". We don't even know what the pricing is for one and its not a crime for consumers to care about a products value. You absolutely cannot compare a GPU, any GPU to a supercar. They don't devalue anywhere near as fast as some computer component does. 4k TVs are expensive, incredibly so and I don't think anyone would argue that it isn't a good investment. 680 is still perfectly capable of maxing out the majority of 1080p titles (except for crysis 3).

Yes, this is overclock.net and it might surprise you that people come here for reasons other than admiring Vegas computer, like you know overclocking. You don't need 4 titans to earn a place on OCN and its silly you even think that way. A guy/girl who wants to OC their Gtx460 has just as much right to be here as one who wants to OC a titan.

OCN is not some rich boy club lol. rolleyes.gif

Back on topic: I wonder where this leaves the gtx780. Maybe it will have 20XX cores and more rops/tmus and 4GB of vram. 680 at ~1500 cores matches a 2000 core 7970, a 2000 core 780 will attack it's weak point for maximum damage biggrin.gif

No, some people really do need to get over it. It's pathetic whinging in every GTX Titan thread about the price. Some of us would like to come on here and have a discussion about news and the product and not have to sift through garbage every time they click on a GTX Titan thread.

It's the same thing every time. People starting arguments about the price vs performance and guess what, the majority don't care and don't want to hear it.

Everyone established the GPU was overpriced the day it was released but we've all moved on now. Please drop the topic, I can't possibly block half the forum so I can actually find on topic discussion about what I came here for.

OCN is not just for the elite enthusiasts (like you said and we all know) but why on earth would you come here and mock their systems and complain about ludicrous things when that's what attracts people to come here in the first place. The pursuit of ultimate performance. Because face it and get real for a second, if everyone here could have a 4K screen with 3-Way GTX Titans to power it, they would and no one here that has whinged about the price would.

I read no comments in this thread bashing anyone's system or mocking them in anyway.

Just because you don't like reading peoples opinions doesn't mean they shouldn't be posted if they are relevant to the discussion.

What I find pathetic is people jumping to the defense of a multi billion dollar company (a company which, like every other company exists to make as much money off us as possible.) They have millions of dollars in advertising to sell their products, I don't know why people waste their time doing it for free.
