If it's to choose between the 3 I vote for the third, the 7600GS DDR3. It OCs to GT freq easily without aditional cooling.

Anyways, on my old rig at one moment I've bought a 7300GT and it was great. Sure, @ stock it wasn't much, but it OCed more than 50% for the GPU while being perfectly cool. The 7600GS is better, so it's a good option.
However, now I have a x800GTO... and man what a difference. I can't OCit since it's a R430 core (no OC with this one) but it's a beast, it absolutely shatters all the benches I had with the 7300GT OCed. The 7300GT was that much OCed that it was better in any bench than a 7600GS.

Bottom line: X800GTO pawns any 7300GT or 7600GS DDR2. The 7600 DDR3 is better if OCed properly, but than again you might end up with a GTO based on R423 or R480 and OC them as they OC for around 30%.

One last thing, I had SM 3.0 capable card, and now I don't. It's no difference at this price point. SM 3.0 usualy means ULTRA HIGH details in games. If you don't use that setting you have no use for SM 3.0, and the cards around 150$ simply don't have the power to handle such.

I beg to differ. my mate just got he's X1650XT 256mb AGP. so i asked him if i could give it a go in my system. and omg does it hammer. i was able to play NFS Carbon at 1280x1024 with AAx6, AFx16, HDR and everything in the game cranked up to max. now that game uses SM3.0. so in that game. it is worth while getting a SM3.0 card. and trust me it looks alot better then SM2.1. i am most deftly buying a X1650XT. and i only have a 400Watt power supply. and it worked no probs. btw the AGP version uses less power then the PCI-E equivalent. the same goes 4 the X1950 pro. they managed to make them less power hungry and still have the same performance. sure they Don't OC as much. but what does that matter when u can just change the core voltages back up in the setting and OC them. still i upped the voltage and clock as far as i could get it stable. and i still had no probs.

You also gotta remember other factors as well. A low end cpu can actually bottleneck a GPU. You can do some benchmarks with a cpu overclock and actually see your GPU score increase as well without clocking the GPU and keeping it the same before and after. SO depending on what CPU you have if you get a high end GPU that GPU is only gonna perform the best your CPU will allow it.

I don't say that the x1650XT isn't better than the others, just that between the 7300GT and 7600GS I advice him to get the X800GTO, that's it.
Sure, if ye go up a price bin between 7600GT and x1650XT the latter is obviously better. I also said that for the cheap cards SM3.0 isn't som' to hold your breath upon, but since we're talking about 200$ cards I'd want them to have SM3.0.

well the X1650Xt only cost him $218 AUD. *jumps on a currency converter* aka 171.75 USD. so a pretty cheap card if u ask me. plus i got the money 4 the card. so i might as well upgrade. plus my CPU might only b a AMD Athlon 2400+. but it is OCed from 2Ghz to 2.6Ghz. and it blows alot of 64bit Athlons out of the water. it even keeps up with a 4200+ in all of the tests i have run. yeh at stock CPU speed with that 3dcard i know what u mean. but once i got over 2.2Ghz. well there was basically no performance boost at all. and i was able to OC it to max. and even then at 2.4Ghz the same thing happened again. so i don't think my CPU will bottleneck the CPU. considering what i have tested. like my CPU won't b as good as yours. but it still does well. if anyone is wonder How The F did i get suck i high Clock speed. well my system is water cooled. well the CPU, NB, and System memory is anyway.

Just becaise your processor is overclocked .... doesnt mean it can keep up with our 64's

You have to think about the L2 cache, and the fact that it's....well.....64 bit

Why not the X1950 Pro for AGP? I would love to have that in my system.

The 7600GT pawns 7800GS... and it's cheaper.
x1650XT (NOT PRO) pawns 7600GT but it's a bit more expensive; not as expensive as a 7800GS.

The only 7800GS worth having is sold only in Europe by Gainward as it has 7800GT core and can be OCed to 7800GTX speed. It's 250€ in germany. It's called Gainward Bliss 7800GS AGP.....something.
