A leadership change is underway at one of the world’s largest video game publishers.

On Monday, Electronic Arts Inc. announced that chief executive John Riccitiello would be stepping down as chairman of the board and chief executive of the Redwood City, California-based video game company on March 30.

EA’s board has appointed Larry Probst, chairman of the board and former chief executive, to the position of Executive Chairman. Mr. Probst will lead EA as the company searches for Mr. Riccitiello’s replacement, according to a release from the company.

The news sent shares of EA climbing as much as 7%.
