total $890. You could get by with no case if you wanted to pick one up for 40 shipped. Also all the Neo Eco PSUs were out of stock don't that beat all. Also some one might be able to find a better deal on a video card to free up a few dollars fora case. If I knew what i know now and had a budget ........ CRAP! i forgot a hard drive. ......If I knew what I know know and had a budget I wouldn't need a Hard dri.... I kid.

http://www.hwcompare.com/12053/geforce-gtx-570-vs-radeon-hd-7850/

Since he is on a budget he should be going with Amd cpu since it's cheaper and the fact that cpus really don't matter for gaming compared to the gpu. You gave him a cheap affordable gpu but that gpu is not going to last him too long if he wants to max graphics out. That gpu is comparable to my 2010 gtx 570 which while is a beast right now, is showing its sign with aging especially in games like Tomb Raider 2013 where I could only do Ultra maxed out at 1920x1200 resolution with TressFX off.

Since he seems to want the best graphics, he is going to want something better like a gtx 680 or an hd 7970ghz. If he was patient he should wait for either the 700 series/800 series of Nvidia or the 8000 series of Ati. If he cares about extra special effects in games such as Batman Arkham Asylum and City, then I'd recommend Nvidia for Physx.

Also, since he is on a budget, he can go with a cheap 4gb ddr 3 ram, I do that and things run fine for gaming.

My recommendation is for him to get a 8350 amd cpu, Nvidia Gtx 680 either regular version or super clocked type edition(sc cost more of course) or 7970/7970ghz.

Ati gives better prices on their graphics cards but they lack physx, if physx is not important to you then Ati is probably also your answer for graphics cards as is the cpu. Budget gamers usually stick with AMD stuff even tho I'm a budget game and sided to stick with Amd for cpu, and Nvidia for graphics card because I like Physx.

The Ati 7950 goes for $290.99.

I suppose but, i'm still playing games on medium high with my dual 4850s. My idea was to provide a solid long living base in to which he could upgrade GPU/case/cpu etc etc. how ever you oculd just easily swap out for an AMD asus board, a good one with 8+2 phase VRMs for solid reliability.

or take this mobo:
GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-D3H
this will make the final price 920$

You can Change for the following if you want:
1-Get a better mobo for overclocking
2-get a better price for the CPU and the mobo from micro center if you have one near you
3-Change the CPU and Mobo to:
Quote:
1-CPU:AMD FX-8350 Vishera 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor $184.97 + $4.16 shipping - $25 = $165.13 Use this coupon code "NEW25"
Mobo:GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+
$127.99 after $10.00 rebate card
this will make the total 889.99$

For me i prefer the 920$ choice with the GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-D3H and the i5 which is a faster build for gaming and up gradable to an i7 3770k

I like aswan's post, but graphics cards are preferences. With Ati you won't get Physx, I have to emphasize that because I'm not sure how much you know about pc gaming rigs and what some graphics cards can do and what can not do. Ati is better for the Value/Performance, but Nvidia has Physx. I think I've heard of Physx hacks with intel cpus, but I'm pretty sure they don't work as good as having an Nvidia gpu for physx. But aswan's gave you a good rig that should last you a good 2-4 years maxed out on 95 percent of games.

I have never really cared for PhysX. I didn't find the games to be different with or with out it. it's just an extra graphical effect. what really matters is game play. Besides with PC gaming the graphics are sooo much better you hardly notice the presence or absence of PyhsX. That is my preference.

you asked this on a PC forum...the answer...get a PC

go ask on the Console forums...the answer...get a Console

IMHO its a PC but I might just be biased

the Consoles are coming to the point where they do more and more, I mean I use my Wii for Netflix and Amazon Prime more than video games (granted its not considered a "proper" console like M$ and $ony offerings)

just ask around and make the decision your self, I'm not saying get advice but take it with a grain of salt realizing where you ask.

just my $0.02

  • CPU Cooler Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing $29.99
  • Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H ATX LGA1155 $139.99

Total Price: 977$. add a 300$ and get a nice 120Mhz 23" screen, a Mech Keyboard and a 40$ mouse

I would suggest a better PSU. As soon as the op wants to add anything else to the pc he/she will have to take out that psu and rewire everything again.
