Help 2nd EIDE HDD isnt recognized in BIOS/XP

Thread Starter
Well I figured it was time to defreg the three of my drives today, my primary is a SATA 40GB, Sata 320GB, master DVD Burner/IDE, and slave 160GB IDE HDD, both SATA's were done defreging before I fell a sleep except for the IDE 160GB which still had 60% left.

Now the problem is the power went out while the last and only IDE drive was defragin, when I woke up and booted up my primary 40GB wit XP on it booted fine and did the 320GB, the IDE 160GB though was not recognized at all in XP or in BIOS same for the IDE DVD burner I have never experienced this before what can it be? Did something get corrupted erased when the power went out?

I have tried resetting the BIOS new BIOS battery, and Wester Digital floppy diagnostic tool and it still wont recognize my dvd drive nor my 160GB IDE HDD.

If anyone can be a of help please let me know I dont wanna lose all my media just because of a couple setting/downloads I need to change.

My guess is the jumper for the drive is set wrong. Make sure its set to either slave or cable select and associate the drive with the proper spot on the IDE cable.

Thing is its been set to slave and connected with the gray slave connecter on the IDE cable since feb 06 so nothing has changed since then and worked fine now all of a sudden when the power goes out the jumper settings change on the EIDE HDD and my dvd burner?

As he stated... (nothing but the truth)
You should almost always have your HD as the Primary on the IDE cable that way it gets the voltage it needs 1st. Over time not getting it will cause it to not spin as it should...lots of disk errors.

How do I manually enter parameters for my HDD/burner?

I am changing the jumper on the HDD from slave to master right now and from master to slave for my burner to see if this works or at least gets recognized....

standard options in BIOS?

I just tried Master with no jumper and no burner hooked up to the IDE cable with no luck as to BIOS or XP recognizing my EIDE 160GB drive, I also tried Master HDD and slave DVD Burner with the same results looks like my only luck is to try manual parameters which I have no clue as to how to do, any other suggestions this drive has never given me driver errors ever or any other kinds of problems I can feel it spin up when botting up but doesnt get recognized nither does my dvd burner alone which is only 3mths old so I doubt to IDE hardware parts died at the same time is there EIDE controller I could download that is corrupt i my system or something of the sorts?
