Baked 5970 No Longer Boots

Thread Starter
My 5970 was giving me artifacts, at first only in VLC/MPC but it got progressively worse until it wouldn't run games (usually CTD). Today I decided to bake it, read all the tutorials and gave it a go - alas, now the card doesn't boot at all. I get some funny beeps during POST, but screens are blank and nothing else happens. I gave it 10 minutes at 385..

Is there anything else I can do, or am I stuck having to buy a new card? Right now I'm back to running my 8800gts 512s (lol). Any input is appreciated.

ETA: I contacted Sapphire but was told they don't repair out of warranty cards. rolleyes.gif

Yea man I think that it is toast (no pun intended, well maybe a crappy and not too funny pun is intended). Sorry to hear for your loss, but there is some good news.... you get to upgrade!!! re-arrange the numbers in 5970 and you get. .. ... 7950! Do it thumb.gif

Figures. rolleyes.gif At least I can sell the cooler - I hope.

I've been looking at 7950s actually, might go for the TF III for $320.

I own it. I love it. Don't go for anything less. If you are looking at a 7950 look no further! Beautifully crafted and a beast of an overclocker!

Oh yea. Please don't bake your 7950! It will make me sad mad.gif

It's either that or the Gigabyte WF. Probably the TF3 though, no promises on the baking.

Newer 8+6 gigabytes are voltage locked (not even old bios does not unlock voltages). But it does run cool once you flash it from that crappy boost bios.

Well that sucks for them, it's off the short list. Also been looking at the HIS X2 but can't seem to find one available.. Looks like it's gonna be the TF3.

Edit: Found IceQ X2 at Newegg.ca, $360 though.. worth the extra cash?

Might be able to get some cash for my 5970 AC Accelero Xtreme cooler, if I'm lucky. Can't sell it here though cuz I've only got 33 rep. rolleyes.gif
