It's ok.

The Core i7 980X is a SIX CORE CPU, and therefore requires significantly more voltage to run at 4,5 GHz when compared to a QUAD CORE CPU like Core i7 975. An overclock of 1 GHz on such CPU is already an impressive feat! I would not overclock the Core i7 980X beyond 4 GHz anyway - keeping 1,42 V is asking for trouble! You do not need 4,5 GHz! Nothing will lag anyway on this CPU...

980x.... Better chip, faster, overclocks very well and will last good deal longer then any current AMD CPU will.
So 980x has been praised so far in this thread. My quick question now is: is this chip able to support a GTX680 or Titan? Will the CPU be a bottleneck when it's paired with those GPUs?

980x is better in benchmarks and games, it's got better single core performance. x58 is also a enthusiast platform which allows more RAM and has more PCI-E lanes for more graphics cards/components - More speed mostly.

You'll also sell the AM3+ socket boards a hell of a lot easier then what you'll sell the x58 board because people are still building AM3+ systems, nobody is building new x58 systems.

To add to is the 980x has 6 cores with Hyper threading making it a total of 12 threads, that 8350 has 8 "threads", technically it's just a quad core (and worse in single performance) in comparison to the 980x.

Pretty sure the 980x uses less power too? Not too sure on that one tongue.gif

980x uses more but 8350 is truly a fully scalable 8 core. Intel's HT 8 threads doesn't scale no where near at all as well

so your saying what, you want the 8350 instead of the 980X.?
show me how / where it doesn't scale well, doesn't it beat the 8350 regardless.?

No you don't get my point. Hyperthreading(SMT) doesn't work far as well as AMD's CMT does. Well the only reason why the 980x is far faster is that it's single thread is way way way superior
AMD's CMT scales pretty much about 100% while Intel's HT improves about only 10-15%
