Intel Core i7-3770k or AMD FX 8350

Hi guys!

I think that it's about time I upgraded my PC, but I can't decide what processor should I upgrade it to. I will write what my current PC specs are and what I use my PC for (mainly) and I hope that you can give me some advice smile.gif .

Current PC:

intel core2 quad 2.4GHz
RAM 4GB
GPU- Nvidia GTX 560Ti
MSI motherboard- MS-7529
64-bit OS

What do I mainly use my PC for? :

gaming- Starcraft 2 heart of the swarm
programs- Adobe After Effects; Autodesk maya

So I wonder what processor should I use- the intel core i7 or the AMD FX 8350? Some frineds say that it is better to get the AMD, since it is cheaper , it has more cores and it would be better for rendering and multytasking. Others say that I should get the core i7 ,since it has a faster per-core performance and it will be better for gaming, it would do the same job for rendering as the AMD FX 8350 and most PCs can't use all 8 cores of a processor. I'm thinking of keeping the GPU and upgrading 4 more RAM to the 4 I now have (total of 8) and I will have to change the motherboard for sure.

I am waiting for some advice smile.gif , I really want to know if the intel is worth the extra cash?

Thank you all in advance smile.gif !

If Your primary game is Starcraft 2 you are better off with the Intel CPU as SC2 in one of the few games that doesn't scale well with extra cores. The Intel Ivy Bridge CPU have stronger per clock performance(IPC) and perform better in SC2. You will probably get the same SC2 performance from a i5-3570K(much cheaper) as the 3770K and both will out performance 8350.

For gaming, you are better off with 3700K. Anyway, this sub-forum is not the place to discuss those things.
Go to appropriate sub-forum (i.e. general hardware discussion sub-forum) to get more details.
