Kingston HyperX to 1800MHz?? Cannot figure out how to do this in BIOS (Asus M4N68T-M Rev 1 mobo)

Hey OCN,

The motherboard in my sig is giving me some grief. I know that the board supports 1800 MHz overclocking on DDR3 memory, but I cannot figure out how to enable this, as the manual clock controls only allow me to adjust the base frequency to a max of 800MHz...

Here is an excerpt from the owner's manual that shows I should be able to run at 1800 but I do not understand how...
Quote:
2 x 240 pin DIMM Slots with maximum 8GB unbuffered - ECC and Non-ECC DDR3 1800 (O.C.) / 1600 (O.C.) / 1333 / 1066MHz memory modules

This board has a max multiplier of x15 which makes for a max of 3000MHz on a chip with a base of 200MHz... The stock is 2.8GHz on the 1055T and I was wondering if it would even be remotely safe to overclock a mere 200MHz in order to "unlock" 1800MHz memory clocks (this is what I found when I was searching on google, that you would have to OC the CPU BEFORE you could push the RAM to 1800MHz so as of right now I am completely confused)

Edit: I am pretty sure these modules here are what I have installed in the system, because they are the only ones I can find that have this heatsink design.

My apologies... this is the correct link, I found it a bit odd that the previous ones were $200 when I only paid $40 for mine...

mad.gifmad.gif Edit AGAIN: Newegg just pulled that item off the site, what the heck? They only list the 1066 DDR2 and 2000 DDR3, the 1600 is just gone..

In theory, to run the memory as DDR3-1800 you would have to overclock your CPU to 225MHz HTT using the DDR3-1600 memory multiplier.
On practice though, this might not be possible. Even though ASUS advertise the board to be capable of DDR3-1800, nVidia 7025 is not what you'd call a memory-overclocking-friendly chipset, so in the end you might just use your memory at DDR3-1600 with lowest possible timings.

Well I do know that after reading in many different places the timings can be lowered to 8-8-8-24 from the stock 9-9-9-27 (not sure if it needs overvolting). Problem is I had a brain fart and I cant remember what that string of numbers refers to, whether it be the TCL, CaS, tRS, etc. I am out of practice on timings.

Setting to NB multiplier to max (x10) does not give me any additional RAM options..

You can't set the memclock higher than 1600mhz because;

a) that's what SPD reports to the BIOS

b) Phenom II only supports up to 1600mhz (officially).

If you really want to OC you'll have to use the FSB or reprogramme the SPD data. Tbh it's not worth the effort since you won't see any difference except in benchtests.

Raising the CPU/NB on the other hand can def improve things. When using 1600mhz ram the NB should be at least 2400mhz for best performance. This can usually be done without increasing voltage.

Hope this helps.

Officially Phenom II only support up to 1333 not 1600.
