HELP: Router not working - Page 2

Which cable is plugged into the internet port? The ethernet from the modem I hope, and not directly to a computer.

Yes from modem to wan port. I know how to physically connect the wires. Same as the 54g2 which is what I'm using now. I ordered a Asus 56u so hope it is a good device

Oops. Edited when I meant to reply.
----

I only keep repeating it because you've never answered the questions as to the exact layout, the pinging, and you've mentioned connecting directly to the lan ports before. When troubleshooting like this, if the rest of us don't have all the answers, and we don't start from absolute scratch, the one early thing that seems stupid is usually the catch after hours upon hours of work.

It's hard to believe you own so many dead routers. But it happens.

Well the ddwrt 54gl was a ap to another stock wrt54gl and I had the DNS server turned off

It was working when I last used it and I turned on the DNS server and it still won't recognize here. I'm beginning to wonder if the dsl modem isn't sending internet to the wrt54gl for some reason, since the wrt54g2 works and the 54gl would send internet to the phones when it was in a wired port and not the internet in

Also today when I had the cable from the dsl modem to the wrt54g2 it blinked and works but neither of the 54gl (stock or ddwrt) will blink like it has internet.

You can test the modem by connecting a computer directly to it, removing the routers from the equation. Unless wired connections to it have already been tested and working.

Have you rebooted the modem in a while? They'll sometimes die if they've been running constantly for years on end, and a power outage hits.

Reset it 5 times this week or more. I can connect yo it with PC so may need see if can wire a shared connection to wqn port and see if routers allow WiFi net

Modem sounds fine if the direct PC has no issue.

When you connect the WRT54GL to the modem, does it's getting an outside IP from the modem? It would be on the status page under Internet IP. If so, then the Internet/WAN port is fine.

Sounds like something might be burning out the Internet ports on the routers, but confirming dead hardware is hard.

I didn't test today but the other day I released dhcp or whatever the outside connection is called and tried to renew it. No external IP before or after. And as mentioned earlier I connected the modem cable to a network port and my galaxy note and gf iPhone could surf the net fast but no PC could connect wired or WiFi to net
