Microsoft went crazy in the 90s, even worse than Apple are now. Other companies are doing it right now as well.

There are 72 patent lawsuits that were started this week alone. None involving Apple.

By the way, you should type any company you want into here https://www.google.com/?tbm=pts and see what kind of patents they have smile.gif Most are as bad if not worse than Apples patents.

How am I generalizing too much? There's been several companies that have done this. Some were legitimate companies just looking to take money from the competition, others were small companies that just happened to hold a small patent, never capitalized on it, and instead used it to sue larger companies.

Also, you think I'd post on something I know absolutely nothing about? Without using Google, I can give you an example right now: Soverain Software. They held a stupid patent on "Shopping Cart Technology" for online shopping carts. They sued Amazon, Newegg, Avon, Home Depot, Macy's, Best Buy...just about anyone who used an online shopping cart on their website (which is most retail chains that have a site) and they were winning too. As a "company" they literally did nothing but hold patents and sue other companies. Eventually the whole fiasco was put to an end when Newegg contested their verdict, and presented evidence that the concept of the digital shopping cart had been invented long before Soverain Software got a patent on it, and also that an online shopping cart, simple as it is, could be coded a dozen different ways (therefor not infringing upon Soverain's exact patent) so a lot of the rulings were re-evaluated.

Still, this is a perfect example of how broken the patent system in the US really is.

Just a heads-up in the future, since you're obviously new here: It's not a good idea to just start calling people out without good reason. For starters, most people here are very well informed on the topics they choose to discuss, and really all you're doing is putting a big sign on your back that says "Please ridicule me" by doing so. I could have been very rude about this if I chose to, since you seemed intent on being rude to me, but I'm going to hold my tongue on this one and simply leave you with this friendly advice.

Yeah there are a lot of rediculous patents out there, and the fact that they last for a lifetime + 75 is completely retarded. Next thing you know someone will patent a rounded rectangle... oh wait...

I agree, Samsung shouldn't have been given that patent for a basic camera phone design.

Reference if you don't get it.

lmao that's pretty nuts. But it looks like a phone with a full blown camera in it, and not the dinky ones cell phones currently have.

That would be something I've never seen before.

Really? Most smartphones looked like that from 2006-2008 (the time period when Samsung patented it)

I'm just talking about the camera portion. That's a full functioning camera, with a phone on it. (not the little ones we currently use, but an actual point and shoot camera lens)

Right now we have smart phones with camera's on them

This is a camera, with a smart phone on it.

The patent is only for solid lines, the camera portion doesn't have solid lines. But here are some of the phones I am talking about (BTW IIRC that Samsung phones has a 3 MP camera and the sensor isn't that big, especially compared to other dedicated cameras of the time)

LG Viewty

Whatever this is

Micromax X800

EDIT: Just for comparison, here is that Samsung phone they got the patent for

Samsung also have a patent for an oval thumb.gif
