CPU Overclocking / Throttling. [HELP]

So yeah.

AMD Phenom x6 1045T 2.7GHZ - 3.2GHZ (TURBO) w/ stock fan
Gainward 560TI 448 cores
8gb DDR3 Kingston ram
TX650 Corsair PSU
N68C-S UCC Motherboard.

1. I'd like to know if I can successfully overclock this set to 3.5ghz and keep stability / a cool temperature, at the moment I've played dayz, guildwars2 and.. some other games and max temperature is 46c..

2. Whilst playing guildwars my processor downclocks itself to 1.4ghz whilst running at 2.7ghz.. If I turn the clock speed up to 3.2 for example, it will downclock to 1.6 ..

Just wanna ask these questions.. it's really bothering me, I posted about this before, upgraded my PSU and still the same problem with the throttling / downclocking whilst under pressure.
Also, if anyone else plays dota2, after overclocking to about 3.1ghz and playing dota2, it crashed after a few minutes of playing ingame, dota litterally freezes and I have to end the task and start it up again.

well, i looked up that motherboard to see what it would handle. I think the 6 core and high wattage CPU might be a little much for it. I would turn off all cool and quiet/ turbo settings in the bios, clock it to 3.0ghz, set the cpu voltages to +5-10% above stock (i.e. stock = 1.38vs, set to 1.42vs) to start with and see if the throttling continues. It could be the board doing it due to the lack of mosfet cooling. Don't use a game to test for stability, use prime95, or linx. You may truly have way too much cpu for that board.

Fill out your system specs with the system builder, and post a CPU-Z screenshot.

Hey sir,
Most newer boards support amp (amd master profiles) and thermal control, go into your bios disable any power management except cool and quiet. It also is not a bad idea to buy a aftermarket cooler since most of the newer power management features are triggered by temp rather than usage. Hope this helps

The weak VRMs on this board are really not ready for 6-cores... they are an old 3-phase AM2-era design for dual cores. You may have over-current protection kicking in, for your own safety. You need a new motherboard...

^^^ This

Way too much CPU for that little board

I didn't think about that point. Make sure your Motherboard supports 90w CPUs
Edit: his board fully supports it I'm gonna stick to my guns and say its thermal control or ect.

What is the reason for throttling in the first place? Temperature? or..?
Yea, some boards have that option. I'd go through your bios and see if you can find it or something like it. Mine does that very frequently.

finding what is causing the throttling will only open a door to the inevitable death of that board. After reading a little more about that board, I would say turn the temp safety features off. start VERY SMALL, like 2.6 ghz, no turbo, and low voltage just to see of the stability issue is indeed caused by the board temp. safety features.
You are likely to get better results with the 6 cores cpu underclocked and stable, than a constant throttling issue.

Just my 2cents.gif
