hey guys I'm thinking about upgrading from my 2 GTX 460's any advise?

tbh I'm looking at a 660Ti but I'm not overly sure how much performance I'll gain I could consider keeping one of the 460's as a physx card? meh I dunno at the moment I'm still undicided

You won't see any gain, you will have about same performance but save a lot of energy, heat and you won't have to deal with SLI issues. Thats all.

What money you want to spend?

It would be a decent upgrade they perform on par with 580, which is a big jump from 460, and keeping one 460 for physx is not a bad idea, if you play physx games a lot. Borderlands 2 is the newest one to use it....

Thats a good question, as I think AMD has more value for the money right now, but would also rule dedicated physx out...

A 660ti is about as fast (give or take) as a GTX 580. If memory serves me right a 460 in SLI is about 10% (give or take) faster than a stock GTX 580.

This would mean that you would get more or less the same performance but more memory (1gb effective for SLI vs at least 2GB for 660ti) getting a 660ti over the 460 SLI. Don't forget that you get the same performance while lessening the heat output, the power draw and noise among other things.

I came from a GTX 460 myself (not SLI) and I would have to say that getting the 7950 was a huge upgrade considering how much you can OC the HD 79xx series from AMD right now. At stock the 7950 and 660 ti trade blows but the 7950 when OCd gets to insane levels only about 5%-7% behind the 7970.

If you stick with Nvidia though the 670 is a better upgrade over the 660ti because of the 192 bitrate which can limit the 660ti when playing games with big demands for graphics (like Skyrim with HD mods, Crysis 3, etc.) and playing at resolutions 1080p (1920x1080) and higher.

My two 1GB Palit Sonic Platinums were about equal to a single GTX 580. (Maybe a little better) In Unigine Valley a single 660 pulls above a 580. It's like next up the ladder. http://www.overclock.net/t/1360884/official-top-30-unigine-valley-benchmark-1-0-fill-the-form

I didn't see any worthwhile gains running a physX card, but maybe I don't play enough physX titles... I think you'd be better off selling and putting the money into the new card. Might help you stretch to a 670?

Of course if you are tempted to go over to the red side, so be it. thumb.gif

If you want Nvidia, GTX 670 is the route to go.

This is to show GTX 580 VS Gtx 660 like alancsalt mentionned

If you want me to make a Graph with GTX 470 and GTX 470 sli, just asked.

Thanks so much for the feedback people its much appreciated. I think I'd like to stay in the Nvidia camp but at the end of the day I'm not too fussed, just IMO AMD cards seem to run hotter and louder, thats the real reason I've been prompted to look into getting a new card, because running FarCry3 today my sandwiched card got to 99C!!!! although thats at 5040x1050 resolution but when I try it on 1 screen it doesn't scale properly.

thanks for the graph, I've submitted my own benchmark to them smile.gif

I honestly don't know at the moment I'm just pondering it because the 460's are running all my games comfortably it's just the heat/noise problem I'm having with the SLI solution.
