Really? Well, I would have to ship it to you... but ain't got time or $$ to put it back together just yet...

Still, I could offer it as a prize... with maybe a Pentium4 inside and a GPU of some sort... we will see...

Very good point Starbomba.

Looks like it'll end up like this:

Prize value $0-$24.99: at least 5.000 credits
$25-$49.99: at least 25,000 credits
$50-$99.99: at least 75,000 credits
$100-$199.99: at least 200,000 credits (+5 million total credits & 1 BGB)
$200+: at least 500,000 credits (+25 million total credits & 5 BGBs)
(also, the requirement of having NOT accepted a prize given out for last month's BOINCers Gone Bonkers event applies)

I'll leave the discussion open until Monday evening (a few hours before BGB28 begins).
Only two things that I'd really like more focus on:
  • Thoughts on using the lanyard as a special prize for referrals (starting with BGB29 in June)
  • What's the consensus on the BGB requirement for the $100+ prizes?

Looks good. The $200 prizes are very rare, giving even part-time crunchers time to rack in points for when they do appear. That would make it fairer to the people who prefer CPU projects or really lack the hardware but have a lot of interest.

For the lanyard, i'd prefer to offer two, one for the top referrer or to be raffled between all the referrers, and one up for grabs to all participants. It is really hard to refer people, and not for the lack of trying.

The lanyards are rather sort after, might get more people interested in bugging people to join

2-3 BGBs for 100+ IMO.

While I do not have a problem with the lanyard being a prize for referrals, I agree with starbomba. Referrals can be rather elusive, even when ACTIVELY seeking them out.

I will readily admit that the bundled/capped electricity was a large factor in moving to my current location. What BOINCer could pass that up?

@ Starbomba, If you wanna pay half rent, all good by me. You'll need to ask the lady of the house though, Good Luck Sir tongue.gif

The main reason it's so difficult is how obscure Boinc is on OCN. How often do you really see boinc talked about around OCN?
I'm relatively new here and recall seeing the BGB banners or maybe a thread pop up in the recent threads list but not really knowing what it was about, I never really bothered to click the thread or check it out; there was just nothing interesting about it. We need more exposure, much more exposure. I mean, look at the Folders; in every news thread about some new piece of hardware there's at least one person (usually more than two) that brings up how great it might be fold on, on occasion, you'd get someone who doesn't know what folding is, asks about it, and boom, we have a new folder. You hardly ever see someone mention how great a piece of hardware would crunch in boinc or see boinc mentioned in a thread.

More incentive for team members to push boinc would go very far in that area.

Looking back at the lanyards for the referral prize, it might actually not be best. Maybe the $25 paypal prize would be better instead?

More incentive for team members to push boinc would go very far in that area.

A main reason for that is because Folding@Home was a thing on here since 2004, where as BOINC only started up 3 years ago on May 20th. In due time we will start to gain more exposure. The key thing right now is to be happy that management has given us a $250 paypal prize per each monthly basis so that shows that we are getting there. As well, the BOINC postbits are still being worked on. I think that it's the Huddler company that has to do the backend stuff for that, so it's more just waiting on them to get that working properly. Postbits by itself is a different issue and there's a thread for that already.

The referral prize will light a fire under many people, so we'll see how that works out. I'm very hopeful that it works out greatly.

This right here is one reason its difficult to spread the word about boinc.

But like gamer said OCN did just give us some backing and all we can do is baby steps. Until other ignorant people see that boinc is just as good as folding, we have to be patient. We cant go running around flailing our arms around yelling poor me.
