Bracket highlighting in Kate

Thread Starter
Is there a way to enable proper bracket highlighting for Kate? I already already set the "bracket highlight" colour in Fonts & Colours to something better visible, but that only affects the background between the brackets. I want the bracket itself to light up like a fog lamp.

Also, is it possible highlight the background between the brackets whenever you're inside the brackets rather than just when one of them is selected?

Not exactly what you asked for, but I find the following can help:

Settings (menu) -> configure -> Appearance (list item on left) -> General (tab) -> Highlight range between selected brackets (tick box at bottom of window).

Now whenever you put the carrot next to a bracket, the entire block is highlighted.

I'd like to know this too. I much preferred the old Kate, where the bracket pairs were bolded.

They still are bolded. I can't post a screenshot right now, but I'm running:

Yea, they're still bolded - though at least for me brackets were bolded by default anyway, so of course you couldn't tell. What I did was go to 'Configure Kate' (under settings) -> 'Fonts & Colours' (under appearance in the list on the left) -> 'Highlighting Text Styles' (tab), and then unchecked bracket bolding. My kate version is 3.8.4 (KDE dev platform 4.8.4) though.
