First time water cooling and need some advise

hello,

I just switched from a h100 to swiftech H2O-X20 Edge HD Series with triple rad. I mounted the kit on the back of my pc push/pull and used artic silver 5 for my thermal paste. I'm currently only running the loop for the CPU I just have a few questions about my temps. my temps with the h100 on load were about 3 degree warmer than with my new swiftech system. I was expecting a bigger drop in temps. I'm running the same aftermarket fans (Enermax UCTB12N-BL TB Silence 120mm) that I had on the h100 on the swiftech. are my temps good or is there something I can do improve them. Thanks for the help

load core 0 69, core 1 69, core 2 69, core 3 68

how much thermal paste did you use. id put money that you used too much. you need to only use a GRAIN OF RICE size blob!! i like to put a blob on the processor then put on either a rubber glove or my finger in a plastic bag and spread the thermal compound evenly on the processor. that ensures proper spread.

also, i can gaurentee you didnt tighten the bolts on the block enough. go to your comfort zone, then give each corner another good full turn. its pretty difficult to over tighten these bolts to the point where you damage the processor.

take the block off, use 91% or higher rubbing alcohol and remove the thermal paste you put on from both the block and the processor, then re-apply in the way i explained above and remount the block and tighten it properly, and temps will drop more.

also, if your rooms ambient temperature is high, no amount of radiator/fans/blocks will drop your temps! something to think about! thumb.gif

I used arctic silvers instructions with the line down the center and I put a thin layer on the heatsink and spread with a credit card like they suggested. as for the block. I made to sure to bottom out the block and I cant tighten the block down anymore. My room temp is 68 F with my computer off and 71 F with my computer on. I'm going to replace my thermal paste with Indigo Xtreme™ ETI.
