what is the budget for the upgrades, or did I miss that...? redface.gif

It was ran at that resolution to show how the game would be bottlenecked by a processor with bad ipc. If you think it's not valid you don't have any idea what you're talking about

Its just a benchmark, not what a person would game in real world scenario. AMD's Steamroller will fix that problem most likely. Anyway the game that was made in 2010, I want to see performance with latest expansion pack for SC2 since it most likely introduced some engine tweaks and optimizations.

Look at the graph. AMD CPUs are in the 40fps range (and that's average, not minimum).

What do you think will happen when you increase the resolution and graphics settings? If anything it will just lower the performance.

And SC2 is almost completely CPU bound, even at 1440p and a single 670 it will only scale with more CPU speed. And not by a small amount either, increase frequency by 10%, get 10% more frames is pretty much how SC2 rolls.

Even at higher resolutions, the same bottlenecks exist. These are on 2500K & 2600K, IVB will perform even better.

Need some perspective?

I have some trust in Anandtech benches, expect we don't know what RAM used since FX 8350 optimal RAM is a 1866mhz... Anyway Piledriver(Bulldozer 2.0) is an considerable upgrade when it comes at number of core's and its power consumption...

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/AMD-Phenom-II-X6-Black-1100T-vs-AMD-FX-6300

Anyway those two processors have different architecture(STAR vs Bulldozer)...

Also StarCraft 2 uses like maximum of 4 core's... Its just ordinary SC2, with no expansion packs that could introduce some engine tweaks and improvements...

No matter how you look at it, AMD chips are behind Intel's in SC2, which is the game he is asking about. Phenom II, Bulldozer & Piledriver are performing pretty much the same due to their lower IPC compared to Intel.

Oh, and I just saw these on the other thread, found it interesting how Linus tested 4 platforms overclocked with a Titan.

It's sad that an 8350 gets beat by a 3 year old Intel CPU, eventhough it's clocked 1GHZ higher. It's clear that the 3770K is the best overall choice.

It varies from a game to a game, from a program to program and you don't know much don't you?!?...

Intel's processors after mega flop called Pentium 4 are based around Core 2 Duo that was derived from Pentium 3 architecture, Intel is just shrinking C2D and rarely do some tweaks to improve the architecture. They do tweaks when their C2D architecture hits the brick wall and they intentionally just give 10% of performance per generation and most games are optimized for Intel's processors since in most personal computers there are Intel processors and because Intel is basically shrinking down their C2D so programmers already know what to expect from it...

So Intel did little to invest in R&D, they are just slacking off and doing nothing after they decided to sabotage AMD because their Pentium 4 was a massive flop that is far worse than Bulldozer "flop". Intel bribed and forced OEM's like Dell, HP, Toshiba and offering to shops special rebates if they delay or cancel batch of AMD's processors that really blow Intel's Pentium 4 out of the water. AMD was rising and Intel in period of 2002 to 2007 did all those things that broke antitrust laws, AMD was a rising star and they had 20+ percent of CPU market and they got really demolished by Intel's dirty tricks that damage it so much that all money they got from settlements. The only good thing that they got that they can go produce x86 without their own fabrication factories...

AMD made most powerful and cheap processors compared to Intel, now they aren't the most powerful nor most efficient but they are still cheaper price for performance ratio.

AMD's Bulldozer was a brand new architecture and radically different compared to STAR's architecture/specification so of course Bulldozer was a flop but not as large flop compared to Pentium 4 mega flop. Piledriver is a tweaked Bulldozer, they actually could have done before but sadly they rushed if they din't and delayed a bit they could beat Sandy and compete with Ivy Bridge right from the release that was in Q4 2013 but they have made a mistake...

Piledriver is what Bulldozer was suppose to be, if that happened then Steamroller would be Piledriver...

Anyway Steamroller will be out in fourth Q4 2013, it will be 28nm with some tweaks and improvements and there are 3 possible outcomes:
- 20% improvement's and lower power consumption(likely)
- 30% improvements same TDP(possible)
- 10% improvements, vastly lower power consumption(unlikely)

Good luck with that. vampirr is a quasi-sentient trolling machine engineered by AMD to regurgitate marketing spiels and other non-sequitur garbage into threads that highlight AMD's inferiority in chip design and performance. Why they decided to put their R&D dollars into creating such a monstrosity instead of fixing the problems that their current "moar cores" strategy can't, I don't know.
