Is FRAPS still the go-to program for recording? - Page 2

An hour of gameplay would be just about 16-20 GB's, while yielding quality comparable to Fraps.
It does require a powerful CPU though, but in your case you would be fine utilizing it.
Dxtory would also be able to record all of your ingame sound aswell as your mic on different audio streams - you would just need to extract them after you're finished recording.

Another plus of this method is streaming. Since the x.264 codec doesn't utilize as much bandwidth, it would also less the strain on the upload speed while streaming. But that's an entirely different matter.

Anyway, this is how I record. I left Fraps in the dust ever since I found out about this. I can link you how you're supposed to set it up if you're interested. smile.gif

This sounds very interesting! I would very much appreciate any info you have to offer! +rep to you sir.

I think they've had it for over a year. Just go to their website and download the latest version.

Even with FRAPS' higher file size, recording to a USB HD isn't an issue. I've done it with a USB 2 external and had no problems.

FRAPS is still the best, but MSI afterburner is free.. hard to beat that tongue.gif.

I still use FRAPs to record my gameplay... You can de-select the 4GB file option... And the 4GB gets reached pretty quick because the videos are raw and uncompressed formats... which means it uses more resources too.
DXTory has much more customization, more video output options, and even recordings onto more than 1 hard drive for less stuttering and more data throughput...

I still continue to use FRAPS as it is simple, and does the job. When recording at 60FPS that's when it tends to give my system a little bit of stutter.

Do you have the checkbox that says "Split movie every 4GB" selected?

Well, I still use FRAPS sometimes, but damn, an average LoL game takes up something like 60gb and I have to record it on half-size or it murders my FPS. On the bright side, everything I'm hearing gets captured (teamspeak, music, in game sounds).

I can't seem to install this codec. I've downloaded it but upon trying to install it, it flashes the command line up then just closes instantly.

Am I missing something?

You did grab the Windows one, right? (http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/ ?)

EDIT: You need the VFW-version. I found the one i use on sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/ . Once installed, it should show up in dxtory under the "video codec"-section.
