AMD AM3+ motherboard for FX-8350

Thread Starter
I am soon going to place my order for my CPU and motherboard for my new build I am working on. I was considering the ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 since it seemed to be a mid-grade board just below the Sabertooth. Is this board a smart buy? Or are there some other boards I should consider. I looked at Gigabyte and MSI, but I normally stick to branding I have been successful with before. I'm not looking to purchase ASrock or Biostar as I'm not really familiar with them, but Gigabyte and MSI are names I actually know. Budget for the board is ~150. I have been researching... and looking.... and reading................. and I have too much information to make a decision...(If there is such a thing) so I decided to ask the most technologically educated group I could find. biggrin.gif So, what do you think?

I would avoid MSI on AMD. lots of VRM failure. cheap parts and bad engineering. Asus and Gigabyte make solid boards. just switched
from an old Gigabyte to a Sabertooth 990FX. Very happy with the new board. Biostar has a solid budget 990FX board. Can't complain
about it at such a low price.

(higher end. priced accordingly)
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3/UD5 are solid 990FX chipset, 8+2 VRM
ASUS M5A99X EVO and higher are great boards (Evo, Pro, Sabertooth and Crosshair)

MSI AM3+ boards are terrible, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.
Here's some options:
GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD5 (currently $35 off after rebate at Newegg)
ASUS M5A99FX PRO
The Sabertooth is a great buy but it's a bit over $150
The ASRock Extreme boards are good too.

I think I'll look into the UD5 or just stick with my Pro 2.0 from ASUS.

Thanks for the info all!
