AMD Phenom II 960T 4 Ghz 6 cores + 7950CF = CPU bottlenecked? - Page 2

I wouldn't say a big jump in performance, but you'll probably see a marginal to substantial FPS improvement.. I would seriously consider getting a newer motherboard, and CPU because that'll make your system stronger and last long in the long haul. The Piledriver architecture won't get you the same boost as getting another card, but it would make it perform better if you got a second card in the future. What types of games do you play, more specifically do you play online games?

online...not really since i'm not a competitive player per say..i actually haven't gamed in years so where i'm coming from it's just better for me to play single take it easy for now i guess...i might play online later but that's really a question of IF, not when.

why does it matter? would a second card be substantial fps improvement?

Agreed bottlenecked is a very overused term, it is all relative on the game to say loosely. Some games heavily realy on the CPU with the addition of the GPU, some games do not depend on the CPU hardly at all and rely heavily on the GPU's. I was in the same situation as you, I had a 960t unlocked to an X6 running @ 4.0 ghz with a single 7950 and man that thing rocked, I really liked it. I then upgraded to an FX8350 and found the performance on CPU demanding games improved a little, not like OMG this is insanely different but noticeable. I then purchased my second 7950 and the performance was substantial, it really helped my fps. It really boils down to what games are you playing, if they rely on the cpu heavily a second card isn't going to net you huge results, if the game depends on the GPU heavily then yes a second card will help a lot, providing its not on the 4x slot, sorry man that 4x slot will not let that card run as it should.

Unfortunatly that 4x slot is going to hurt that 7950. You will still see an improvement no doubt about that, but with that 4x slot the card isn't going to be able to breath.
