No...they haven't. Quality headphones still sound like crap. IF you're ok with subpar sound, whatever, but don't say that it's good to use. The difference between my onboard and my FiiO E7 is night and day.

Anywho bud

1) Creative is by far the worst sound card company you could get anything from, their garbage hyped EAX junk they boast, their bloaty subpar drivers and the worse than Asus customer service? You're paying for a risk is all.

2) If you're in for music and so forth, don't waste money on a sound card. Look into actual headphone amps like the FiiO E9, E7 or whatever one you want.

or something like this

You should really be posting in the hi-fi audio section, not this one smile.gif

Your setup is kind of old though no offense. Mine has realtek 898 which is pretty much the same as a dedicated card. It's 110db SNR.

USB External Device (like the Sony in that video) is not equal to a dedicated card or audiophile grade DAC...

A good card or DAC will wipe the floor with any onboard chip, provided you are using decent components (headphones or speakers) to listen to the sound with. You will not be able to tell the difference (or will think it's worse) with crappy headphones or speakers; but it's not.

SnR is not as important as bit depth and sample rate.

ASUS is probably not going to update their drivers, but the Unified drivers that are out there work very well and address some of the issues that I had with my DG (enabled options that were otherwise not working). I've heard similar things with the STX, though it is a much better card.

Asus last updated drivers for the Essence STX is only about 5 months old.

No offense but you come off as an @$$ sometimes, no actually pretty much any thread I read your posts in.

Anyway...going from onboard to a Xonar Essence STX for me made a huge difference. I can absolutely hear things I never heard on onboard. I won't go back.

External cards are the way forward imo. I've got a Focusrite Saffire 6 Usb and I can guarantee you it wipes the floor with any of these Xonar cards. 2 Preamps, a variety of monitoring options, RCA and Balanced TRS outputs, and quality inputs too. More of a card for producing music and listening to music but it's quality is brilliant.

There's no reason to even listen to his opinion, he's using Beats by Dre lol. That invalidates everything. System out of date = sound quality now? Wonder what that has to do with me running my sound through my yamaha receiver and polk audio speakers rolleyes.gif real outdated there lol. Guess If I have some of those awesome beats by Dre I'd be pretty boss

So long as it's a good quality external, I'd agree.

There are a lot of crap usb cards out there, though.

Did you not see his Alienware gear? Pfft, insane FPS bra. Insane. Double bawsss.

OH MY GOD ITS IN HIS NAME TOO..... Damn.

Anyhow, from on-board, to an Xtreme Music, I'm impressed. Then, to on-board to an Essence STX, I poo'd all over the place. When they're driving my A40's I can't get enough of anything.
