[toms] BenQ Releases 27-inch FullHD GW2760HS Thin Bezel Monitor - Page 14

lol dont be afraid of his title. it's pretty much nonsense. I cant have a 55" 1080p TV as a monitor in the office and sit 5' feet away. Sit at normal desk distance and a start button as big as my hand wont do me any good.

Not even. Going from 1080 to 1440p unveils a whole new level of graphical fidelity in gaming. A surprising amount of people just don't have a good eye for critiquing graphics in video games, which explains this ex-mod's ridiculous tv setup. Of course, if you're sitting 15 feet away from the screen your gaming on, you clearly don't give a crap about how good your game looks. But seriously,, if you know what you're looking for, 1440p literally gives you better graphics in your games. It's like cranking up the in-game settings from Medium to Ultra.

Most people don't stop in the middle of a Call of Duty shootout to admire how many pixels a blade of grass has.

Why are there arguments here bashing opinions? Opinions CAN'T be wrong, that's the beauty of the word. If he wants to use a 55" 1080p TV from across the room, he doesn't have to "be saved by 1440p". It almost sounds like a kult, that those who "settle" for large 1080p panels need to see the light and embrace higher resolutions. My IP uses two U3011's in their office, and I don't see the big deal. And you can't call me wrong, because we didn't have eyes pulled from the same wafer, and I have settles for cheaper displays because I don't want to drop ~$400-$1000 on one, just to require spending more to keep my framerate up. And I'm happy about it smile.gif This thread derailed the second users started bashing anybody who is OK with a 27" with this density. That they were flat out wrong.

A smaller pixel pitch is not by definition better. By definition it is smaller/denser, but not better. What is best for each individual is what is best for them, whether it be .23mm, .27mm, or .31mm.

See, this is completely different than what was being said. Everyone has a preference, and that is OK, and you can't be wrong with a personal preference. I know a lot of people that don't like a 27" 1440P display as their computer monitor, it is just too much for them. Nothing wrong with that at all.

The issue is when someone comes in and starts saying 1080P is better, and then begins to list reasons from a technical perspective. It is silly to argue personal preference, as it is personal and right, it is a bad idea to argue tech with a bunch of geeks. biggrin.gif

I agree with this personally. It seems like OCN popular opinion can sometimes get to people's heads, to the point where people begin thinking that there's only one valid opinion and anyone who disagrees just hasn't "seen the light" yet. For example, I saw tons of reccomendations for IPS monitors and saw plenty of "TN is trash" comments, and picked up what seemed to be a highly recommended Dell Ultrasharp monitor, yet on darker screens such as black backgrounds, or night sequences in games and movies I found the IPS glow horribly distracting. I'd read a bit about it but did not expect it to be as prominent as it was, and judging by reviews from sites and users who bothered to test this sort of thing it seemed mine was not an isolated case. So I ended up returning it and buying a much cheaper Asus TN monitor and I've been happier with it than I was with my Dell. Yet I don't jump into every thread about Ultrasharps and tell people they "just don't get it" if they like their display. A lot of people clearly like them, so more power to them. It is exactly the same with resolution, or any other feature of a screen. It's simply one aspect of the monitor that while some may find a high priority, others don't.

Sure...1440p LG panels are not perfect. Far from it. So? Are you bashing the resolution or the panel? Cause most 27" 1080p downers are not about the panel or BenQ as a manufacturer.

1080p is not useless - far from it. Just a desktop monitor that is meant to be close to you, should have proper pixel pitch which means proper resolution.

Whoever says 1080p > 1440p, and is simply just gaming. I get it. You don't need the "real estate"...for most casual gamers, a 1440p monitor is nothing more than 1.6 extra MP to burden their GPU(s). I would not buy a 1440p just for that.

Whoever uses a TV for a monitor and is OK working 6-7ft (2m+) or further back from it, more power to him. Again, size ≠ available real estate / pixel count. If it is absolute contrast your are after, expensive TV sets rock...word processing and emailing/browsing should work fine...so? The fact that you like oranges more than apples, doesn't contribute anything to an apple vs apple talk. (no pun).

I don't know of a single person that has sat to actually work on CG creation programs and switch between a 27" 1080p and a finer pixel pitch monitor (either smaller 1080-1200p or 27" 1440p) and would pick the 27" 1080p.

I believe it is hilarious that the industry will soon start pushing 4K TVs, threads go bananas for all these people not being able to bare 60Hz while gaming and at the same time so many people cannot get over 1080p - even 2-3 ft away from a 27"...if you need to be 3in away to see pixelation with 27" 1080p , plz change your glasses. No kidding.

As expected, a 16:9 1080p 27" monitor, having almost 80% less pixels than a 27" 1440p, has 1.8 times the pixel size....we are not splitting hairs here...(yes, that's how much bigger the area of the red box is from the area of the orange in this image - it is to scale of the real thing)

Personally I find FSAA on such monitors mostly goes to waste, so even gaming @ them is gimped and graphics don't look their best.
Do 27" 1080p sell like hot cakes? Maybe. So do V6 Ford Mustangs in the US. Don't make a thread claiming its a sporty car, even if in your mind you bought it as such.

I'd much prefer if people talked in terms of pixel pitch instead of ambiguous vertical lines.

Just an example (further confused by my odd aspect ratio): I've got 1080 vertical lines on my 29" display, but my pixel pitch is .27mm compared to the .31mm of a 27" 1080p display.
