at 1920 x 1080 2x SSAA 16x AF (Highest in game settings)

GTX 670 - 30.0
GTX 680 - 44.4

HD 7970 Ghz - 35.5
HD 7950 boost - 27.1

the close to 50% performance difference between GTX 670 and GTX 680 is illogical.

another piece of data which seems illogical is

http://hardocp.com/article/2013/03/20/tomb_raider_video_card_performance_iq_review/6

at 1920 x 1080 FXAA 16x AF (Highest in game settings) TressFX and tesselation ON
GTX 680 - avg 60.1 fps

http://hardocp.com/article/2013/03/20/tomb_raider_video_card_performance_iq_review/4

at 1920 x 1080 FXAA 16x AF (Highest in game settings) TressFX and tesselation ON
GTX 670 - avg 45.4 fps

GTX 680 is 33% faster than GTX 670 at same settings. the shading power on GTX 680 is only 23% more (1536 / 1344 x 1058 / 980) and the performance here is 33% faster. normally GTX 680 is 10 - 12% faster than GTX 670 in most games.

something doesn't agree. they need to recheck these nos. either there could have been a data recording mistake or its a driver issue. my guess is its the former as Nvidia seems to have ironed out all issues.

Nvidias evil doing.

2560 x 1600 High AA (FXAA - High SSAA -medium)
GTX 680 - avg 51.5

1920 x 1080 High AA (FXAA - High SSAA -medium)
GTX 670 - avg 50.8

rest of settings are same. how can GTX 680 perform the same at 1600p as GTX 670 at 1080p. and GTX 680 allowed higher playable settings than HD 7970 Ghz.i questioned them. they said they will re-check their nos and then update the article. they never did.

here is a recent review.

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/03/11/asus_hd_7970_directcu_ii_video_card_review/6

1920 x 1080 High AA (FXAA - High SSAA -medium)
GTX 680 - avg 56.4

2560 x 1600 High AA (FXAA - High SSAA -medium)
HD 7970 Ghz - avg 41.3

these perf nos agree with the GTX 670 nos from the fall review. also HD 7970 Ghz allows higher playable settings than GTX 680.

The fact that [Hardocp] them self says the game does not stutter even @ 40fps with CFX means AMD drivers are doing the job since the 13.3 FIX.

Swiftech Komodo 7950 edition. It's made for the PCB board with the serial number 109-C38137. Pop your card out, look down by the PCI pins and it should show the number. Some cards don't show it but they should look like this

ASUS-HD7950-DC2(T)-PCB.jpg
HIS_HD7950_IceQ_Turbo_3GB_PCB_Front.jpg

PCB-NUMBER-EXAMPLE.jpg

If you go HERE and look downwards, it'll have the model numbers for the cards that are compatible as well.

If yours is the Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 OC 3GB GDDR5 (11196-02-40G) then it'll work. The only 2 Sapphires that don't seem to work with the block is the Vapor-X and the FLEX. The only other block I'm aware of that works is the EK FC7950

http://www.coolingconfigurator.com/waterblock/3831109856239

The "7950 blocks" are the straight 7950 design, so most 7970 blocks also will say 7950 on it, but that's only if it's based on the 7970 PCB. Ours aren't but luckily Swiftech and EK took advantage of that and made blocks for us smile.gif

Nice thing about the Swiftech, even though it DOES cost 150, it also comes with a nice solid backplate. It's a slick as hell looking block

he he, I was going to ask you in the other if you had a 1600p monitor like in the review. smile.gif

In this post, I only brought up the 1600p benches.

You're not the first one to get it mixed up, apparently you have to look closely at the charts AND read their notes to understand their settings.

I am not talking about AMD drivers. i am talking about a error in recording data by hardocp. i think there is enough evidence in the current review . i mentioned the past (fall GPU review) to say that this is not the first time such errors are occuring. most people who look for performance benchmarks would miss this discrepancy unless they closely analysed the data. whatever be the case there is room for questioning the correctness of GTX 680 numbers. the performance relation between GTX 670 (45.4 fps) and GTX 660 Ti (41.5 fps) at 1920 x 1080 FXAA Highest in game settings agrees with the performance gap between these 2 cards in general (around 10%) .

The last time I visited [H], I let them know I was concerned about how they compared GTX 580 overclocked to 7970 and then made a bunch of claims that GTX 580 was only a certain % slower than 7970. They should have used a GTX 580 that cost the same in their comparison and that they didn't make a big enough deal of the GTX 580's clocks. Their justification was that the MDT GTX 580 they used 'cost about the same' yet at the time it cost about $100 more than a 7970 at release.

After that, I was banned for trolling. Go figure. I wasn't the only one either. I had a forum account there for FOUR YEARS and they banned be after being a loyal forum guy because I questioned their review.

My experience with [H] is that they have an agenda and that if you question them, they just ban you and label you a troll and a fanboy. There was no integrity in that article and to be quite honest, I don't trust anything that comes out of their site. Kyle and Brent are, honestly, completely inept at what they do.

This run-through takes place at the very end of the game, and incorporates all DX11 effects available in the game. We see tessellation on both our characters and the scenery. Lara's hair is also displayed with TressFX enabled close up and at a distance, and interacts with the wind. There is also extreme lighting and shadowing in this area, as well as depth of field being utilized. We start our testing procedure after climbing to the top of the chasm. We follow the path around the top, defeating two sets of enemies and going on to face a large storm guard, and eventually the protagonist Mathias. We stop our testing procedure after defeating Mathias and checking on Lara's friend. The entire run through takes between 7 and 8 minutes to complete. Our ideal framerate that delivers smooth and enjoyable gameplay in Tomb Raider is 40 FPS.

It really, really sounds to me like they're simply playing through a part of the game, recording frame rates, and then calling it a benchmark. I wish they'd step in and explain more about how they ensured every run was the exact same, as we all know doing something like looking at the floor can give you a ton of FPS and looking at something demanding can lower your average FPS.

I mean, is this really how the run a review? They just play a game and leave fraps on and then record the frame rate?

I want to know. I know I sure can't ask on their forums because they'll just ban me. After dealing with their crap I don't think it's a coincidence that their site colors in their forum match the nazi party's colors (ok I'm kind of joking here but still).
