Also.. with both sets of drivers now, the 670 beats the 7950 boost in tomb raider at all resolutions. The 7970 is still faster, but I haven't see one for $360, but a 670 can be had for $340.

Key word.... BETA

Out of these two graphics cards, go with the 7970.

He was stylin' on us all!!

At any rate, I'm looking at building a new rig soon (although what I have is fine, I'm itching to build again, gotta scratch it!). I'm waiting on Haswell for sure, but I've been mulling over the 680 versus the 7970, and this thread has lead me to do some of my own research, and I've been satisfied with ATI for quite some time now. I was thinking of transitioning to nVidia again, but I've decided to stick with what's worked well for me and will continue to do so.

The vanilla 7970 is equal to 670 on average unless you're playing at 2560 res. The TPU index shows this to be true, better than any other single piece of evidence anywhere.

There are overclocked 7970's, there are overclocked 670's. You can get a great overclock out of a 7970, you can get a great overclock out of a 670.

The future proofness of 7970 has been the go to argument for the AMD lot. Far Cry 3 was supposed to exhaust the Keplers, and if not that then Crysis 3 for sure. Neither did. In fact, Nvidia has been getting stronger recently. I suppose they got the balance between bandwidth and shaders pretty much spot on with GK104. Almost as if they knew something about building graphics cards...

The drivers... Well, both have their own problems. AMD is trying hard and has had some great successes, but they do have a tendency to break stuff that they already had working. Nvidia has more of steady progress kind of thing going on.

You'll get around 40 fps on max settings with 2x SMAA.

Ah bad timing and I was going to post this too. I suppose I should update that thread with the latest drivers but I don't think the outcomes would change much since both camps drivers advance at a countering rate.

AMD is ok if you're on a budget though. But if you can spring for the 670.

7970 can't keep up with the big boys.

Bro - how old are you anyways? Man i sure hope you are still a teenager, i cant imagine a grown man being this much of a fanboy. There "IS" a difference in being a fan of a product or company vs being a fanboy, don't get the two twisted now.

You're fanboyism totally ruins your credibility...you can't even grasp that eh? wow..that's baffling, i never could understand a fanboy...well i can but anyone with a brain knows it ruins all their credibility when it comes to giving their input, advice, recommendations, etc related to expensive hardware. You need to keep your mouth shut dude... don't lead people the wrong way with their hard earned bucks just because you're a immature fanboy....you dig?

I cant stand fanboys...may it be console vs pc, Nvida vs AMD, Playstation vs Xbox, Intel vs AMD,etc,etc,etc.... it just shows so much immaturity and a severe lack of knowledge in the computer hardware scene but keep the stupid idiotic fanboy nonsense aside and keep it real ...seriously... you represent yourself in a embarrassing way dude. I see you stealth troll and some times straight up TROLL these threads in here when it comes to Nvidia and AMD. It's stupid dude and you are NOT any kind of computer enthusiast, computer enthusiasts keeps it fair and unbiased with their opinions and think before they speak so they do not lead people in the wrong direction with their hard earned dough...in fact you give computer enthusiasts a bad name.

Take a hike and come back when you can keep it real and please...leave the fanboyism at home next time you come here to chime in, please...because it leads people in the wrong direction with their hard earned money..that's not cool dude.

Anyone with a level head on their shoulders that have done their homework know that a 7970 OC is much closer to a 680 than it is a 670....leave the 7950 to take on the 670....your fanboyism has got your mind all twisted and stuff, well better you than me i guess! tongue.gif
