[RESOLVED] PSU not powerful enough?

Thread Starter
Hello everyone, I've been trying to overclock my GPU after having succesfully OC my i5 at 4.5 Ghz. But i've encountered a serious problem, everytime I try to set my clock speed higher then 860 MHz and launch furmark, my computer instantly shuts down adn reboots.
Here is a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4T7BXF3U8I&feature=youtu.be

Here is my build:
https://www.aria.co.uk/myAria/Wish+Lists/spaceboy+%C2%A3850+gaming+build

My GPU is a MSI GTX 580 Twiin Frozr 2.

Would getting a PSU at 850W solve the problem? I've had those shut downs happening while gaming with a clock higher then 850.

Thanks for you help smile.gif

i can't see your rig because it asks me to register and sorry - i don't "sign up".

also furmark is horrid because it will overload your gpu past its TDP. so i really doubt you have a hardware problem. i'd suggest using krombuster that comes with after burner or the OC scanner that is with evga precision. other benchmarking like unigine heavan or furmark 3D are also great for testing overclocks. as long as you have a quality 550 watt PSU, you're good to go.

Sorry about that here is a link for my computer http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj287/curtisslach/config_zps3e560893.png
I've just tried running prime95 and furmark with my previously stable 850Mhz clock and same thing. Some one told me it might be overvolt protection of the PSU. What are your thaughts on that?

I've had my computer do the same reboot thing while playing tomb raider with 3d vision.

I think the PSU is enough.
Here's an idea : Downclock the CPU to stock and try to overclock the GPU past 850 MHz. If it works then you may need a bigger PSU.
Wait for confirmation on this tho.

Did you try upping the voltage of the GPU? Maybe it's unstable beyond 850 MHz without a voltage notch.

What brand is that PSU? Some low end brands do not output the power they are supposed to.

seriously, its a common problem with furmark esp with the 5xx series. i highly recommend you use something else.

I don't know about that but could be true. OP, use other tests for stability, i.e Heaven, and real gaming on demanding games like Crysis 3 - Metro 2033 - BF3.
