I've always had that problem no matter what the drivers where.

My temperature are fine, never goes beyond 75°C (not since the last few test)

I'm confused

Seems like not running furmark and using 3D fire strike instead has a more gives better results.
So far so good, I'm running fire strike extreme, with my GPU set to 1088mv/890mhz and temperature don't get higher then 72*C.
How long should I run the demo for? It has been 20 mins now and it seems good.

Should I try a higher clock speed?

Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

Up date: Drivers crashed after 40 mins, I've lowered to 885Mhz, we'll see if it is stable or not.
Do everyone rules out the idea that the PSU might be the problem?

download and install memtest86+ to a bootable usb stick here is a tut:
Thread: [Windows] HOWTO: Boot Memtest on USB Drive

take out the ram sticks and put 1 in the 4th (last) dimm and reboot off of the usb stick to test. if it passes an hour, for now, swap the stick with the other and test that. if that passes then put in both sticks and test both for several hours.

swapping the pci power connections is much easier. that psu has two 6 and two 8 pin power connections just unplug what is connected to the card and replace it with the unused one.

thats not good. you may want to consider using a driver cleaner such as DRIVER FUSION.
uninstall the drivers in windows, reboot into safe mode, run driver fusion to clean up anything left over. boot into windows then install the latest nvidia driver.

sorry that i am making suggestings that have you running around doing a bunch of "stuff" . . .

Thanks for the help man, I will do all of that this weekend.

Just to let you know, 3D mark Fire strike seems to be stable after 2 hours + of testing this morning (Gpu at 1088mv/880Mhz/ max temp 78°C)
Even when I run Heaven, temperature never exceeds 72/74°C, yet when I run MSI Kombuster furry thing test, OMG i've hit 94°C (3°C short from the Nvidia safety throttleling).

So current clock in 3D mark fire strik eextrem seems stable after 3h30 min of test (1088mv/880Mhz) max temp 69°C

I've just swapped the 6 and 8 pins, that didn't change a thing xD

I've just done 3h40 min of heaven and no crash. Can i say that the OC is stable? 2h30 for 3d mark, and 3h40 of heaven.

Running the memory test now smile.gif

Would replacing the paste on my GPU help with the high heat levels while running furry and tessy test in kombuster? 94°C is really high.
My card idles at 34°C. (I do have a custom fan program running 85% fan speed at 75°C which is the max for my card, it won't go to 100%)

If the watt is not the problem, could the problem come from the PSU only being able to provide 18 amps to the GPU? would getting 12v rails with 20 amps or more be better?

i'll tell ya a bit about my experiences when overclocking my 570. i'd leave the voltages alone and raise the core speed in smaller increments and run a benchmark once such as heaven. if it does not crash then i bump it up again and continue running it once between bumps until it crashes, then bump up the voltage slightly and see if that passes. overall its a good idea to keep the voltages as low as possible to keep the heat and power draw down; much like with a cpu. also keep in mind that when it crashes you will have to turn of the switch on the psu.

i have also found that heaven in particular will allow a higher overclock than in a game such as crysis 2. the 900 core speed i can get in heaven will get eat up in crysis 2 which i have to back down to 885. krombruster is pretty much in the middle i haven't been able to overclock it as high as heaven but i get slightly better than crysis 2. and finally there is a bit of a curse with nvidia drivers and fermi cards. there have been times when what overclock i achieved with one driver release became negated with the next release. it really isn't that much of an issue to me unless the driver release has been optimized for a game that i currently have, which is hardly ever, so i just roll back the driver.

i think you're getting things straightened out.

edit: the psu is spec'd to give 18 amps a rail. that would mean for each connection (6 or 8 pin). i doubt there will be a difference with getting a 20 amp a rail. now a single rail with ~48 amps could make a difference but not really.

Again thanks a lot for your help.
First ram has been checked for 1h20 min (I was gone in the cookhouse xD) almost 2 pass and no error. The second ram is being checked now.
How long should I let both ram under go the test?

Yeah I think I'm finally getting descent results with my graphic card. But it's weird taht I cannot go higher then 1088mv.
I'll try to see if my 880Mhz OC works if I lower the volts. I'm really happy with a 10% overclock. I wouldn't have done much more on air anyway, and since I travel often, I don't think watercooling is an option.

What would you recommend doing for those temperature level in kombuster furry tessy test? should I start messing with thermal pads/paste? or leave the card alone (temp are usually around 70*C in normal games or every other benchmark)?

Regarding the drivers, I buy and play most new release, so having the latest drivers are quite essential for me, specially the latest Nvidia one that fixes issues in tomb raider.

the same amount of time for now. a lot of folks prefer to run memtest ~12 hours stating some errors do not show up until after 3 hours of testing but if you're not getting any errors right now, it seems you're not having a problem(s) right now so it might be ok. my thought of testing the ram was a bit of a long shot.

do you have the voltage unlocked in after burner?:

check for that. i believe you ought to be getting a bit more than what you have now. also do you have a fan curve profile so your fans go a bit higher when you bench? i found it to be useful when stressing my 570. actually i set the fan to 100%, it is a bit noisy since i have a reference model but my temps do stay below 75c when gaming and benching.

there is also a 580 OC club around here:
[Official] GTX 580 Overclocking Club

the first few dozen or so pages might be a little old but there is plenty of tips and information there and i think a few folks are active and can give you first hand experiences. it will at least give a good read.

I'll let the ram carry doing it's check for an other couple of hours then, been 1h30 min now and still no errors.
Yep I have the custom fan set up, I've set it to get to 100% (which is only 85%) at 75*C.
Although everything seems alright, we still haven't figured out why my pc hard resets with furmark which was the main topic of this thread wink.gif
But anyway thanks a lot for everything.
So no last thaughts about the PSU? Is there a way to test the PSU to make sure that it isn't the problem?

Wow didn't expect that to happen, just finished that 3 hours ram test, and realised my bios set itself back to default. :/ had to do my CPU OC again, luckily my previous thread was still here xD so manage to find all the settings really quick smile.gif

So yeah, the ram are not the problem. SO if it is not the ram, could it be the PSU or just a bad GPU?
