Firewall Programs

Thread Starter
I was looking for a thread about the common uses and opinions of firewall programs. It seems that the free ones are firewalls only. But which is better overall?

The ones that I know that are free of are:
Ashampoo FireWall
Comodo Firewall
Peerblocker
Privatefirewall
TinyWall
Windows 7 Firewall Control
Zone Alarm Firewall

Those that offer trials (but may include other features like antivirus, etc):
Bitdefender Total Security
Kasperky internet Security
McAfee Internet Security
Norton Internet Security

In therory all firewalls are equal like a gate, its only the configuration on the firewall that has any effect, usuaky the more "user freindly" it is the more insecure it becomes as it trys to guess what you want, for example people see email and think they need to let it though the firewall when they use webmail etc

Are you only looking at windows?

Linux uses a firewall called Netfilter which has many front ends most commonly iptables

Thanks for the info. I was wondering if one was better then the other for just firewall use.
