i have, and I found it hilariously overpriced. I only do light CAD/rendering with CUDA acceleration so the consumer line has been fine. With my 590 running at 580 SLI speeds (but unbenchable at those speeds due to nvidia's idiotic driver restrictions on 590s), Titan has been a further disappointment for me as overall the difference in my experience would be minimal. But an improved 7990 for under a grand that will most probably slap the 690 around and that has a real memory bus? That is thrilling. It's double thrilling because all of the NV plans I've seen have been gimped cards (GK104) until early 2014.

As much as a true, reference 7990 would be a monster of a card and perform like no other, I feel the Titan is a better buy at the same price point if only because it is a single GPU. More transistors on (smaller) die means progress to me. I'm sure if you wanted to tool around with some exotic cooling you could fit four Tahiti dies on the same board in Crossfire. drool.gif

Crossfire and SLI just doesn't sound like a great solution with the driver/compatibility issues it brings along (it sounded great before I had to fix my CAP for every game, and deal with inconsistent gains, and even losses in performance). One BIG GPU, without the chains of Crossfire/SLI, calls out to me as a better solution even if its performance per dollar is substantially lower.

I guess I prefer Performance/Watt over Performance/$ when we are talking $600+ investments in GPUs. Of course, if you are rocking 7680x1600 or something else absolutely ridiculous (and awesome!) , you are going to need every ounce of performance possible, given today's tech, just to get into a game; a single GPU, even the Titan, will not suffice.

The Titan is an "elegant," be it costly, solution, if there ever was one. It too will fall to the march of time though, making its acquisition cost sting even more.sadsmiley.gif

Here's to 20nm GPUS with 3000+ shaders @ 6 Teraflops, all inside of 200W (ya right)!

Maybe the dual-PCB cards are different, but I have never had a problem with SLI (Morrowind aside). It's been completely transparent for me. My problem with getting a Titan would be that it would feel like a somewhat incremental performance gain. Just taking my 590 from 630MHz (stock) to 850MHz gave me somewhere around 8-20fps depending on the game. It's a bit faster than 580s at the same speed (inter-card communication is all on-PCB) and from that perspective, a Titan seems like a HUGE waste for an overall gain of maybe another 20-30ish fps. It makes my dilemma resoundingly stupid because I already enable vsync in 80-90% of games I play.

OP: Pl,ease keep us updated and make some FRAPS demos for each card so we can see how well the card is working for you. thumb.gif

Not with one 7950/7970, no. (KaRLiToS and his awesome graphs! thumb.gif)

If you ever go for two 7950s, you may want to consider a beefier unit, like 850W Gold or higher. I say this because PSU's are most efficient half-loaded, and if you are going to spend a fair amount of time using your PC in game, it will run most efficiently, and least costly around say 40- 70% load. That, and if you push the clocks of two 7950's with your current 630W, you may have issues besides your Catalyst Application Profiles. biggrin.gif

As it sits, that 630W PSU will take a single loaded, overclocked 7950 and your "power-sipping" 2500K with ease, most likely in its power-efficiency band.

That's the point of these monstrous cards: WASTE! (Naa, I'm just kidding.) But seriously, people who have the money for extreme systems won't hesitate to spend extreme amounts of money. The difference in cost in minute for some people, especially with multiple Titans/GTX690s/HD7990s... This is where the "if I had $2000 to spend on GPUs alone" question comes into play; a question most of us would feel guilty living out, (conspicuous consumption anyone?) seeing what else in life that same $2000 could go to

Back to earth, as a single physical GPU in a tight mITX enclosure, a dual GPU card is the way to go if you want the highest frame rates possible. This is where the Titan shines as well.

Your 590 has a lot of life left. I wouldn't consider a Titan if I were you either, given its cost. I'd just about skip a generation and pounce on a next-gen card if a single high-end one out-competes the 590.

Good luck, OP!

@ KaRLiToS: Oh, I know, its just that you are lightning quick and accurate with what you post, helping the OP out better than anyone here with hard data. Thank you!
P.S: Just noticed that pretty much everything I said about extreme systems mirrors your absolutely monstrous system (right down to the 7680x1440, QuadFire), hopefully no offense taken? It is built with absolute class anyway and represents pretty much the highest performing system possible now!

Thread Starter
Just found this review of the 7870 with Tomb Raider on Ultimate, not sure if the 7870 XT would be any different, so 7950 is a little better, just barely..

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti was another video card that was playable at 1920x1080 with FXAA enabled. It averaged 41.5 FPS with all settings on ultimate, and TressFX enabled. For the AMD Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition to be considered playable at 1920x1080 with FXAA and TressFX enabled, we had to lower the texture quality from ultra to high. At these settings the Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition averaged 40.1 FPS. We will show the performance with FXAA and all settings on ultimate later on. These two video cards barely squeaked through on 1080p. These two video cards would be better suited for lower resolution gameplay.
