I decided to put an advertisment of my computer to a site where people sell different kinds of stuff. Lets see if someone is interested in buying my computer wink.gif

Currently pushing that gtx465 @ 850mhz with 1.150v what is a pretty high voltage and still doesn't have a problem with the heat. The only thing that sucks is the stock cooler, but if he finds a twin frozer or gets a VF3000F cooler then he is set.

Though I guess what the best deal OP can find for a GPU would probably be the best determining factor.
I'm not attacking the GTX400 line, they are good cards , but using the stock cooler they run hot and loud. Custom cooling is great and really helped fermi shine but OP will more likely than not find a reference cooler in which case he should stay away from them.

Just one last thing though, did you try a full driver uninstall and then install the latest ones available for that GPU? What i mean is that:

  • download "driversweeper"
  • unistall your drivers and restart
  • use driver sweeper to remove all AMD drivers and restart
  • install latest available drivers and restart
Maybe this would work and save you alot of time and money as opposed to getting a new rig.

^^ This for sure

and a note for the GTX 4xxx heat issues... I installed a "High Flow" bracket on one of my 4 just to see and the temps dropped like 15-20*C and 20% off fan usage... why they didn't have higher flowing brackets from factory is beyond me lol.

SSD have nothing to do here.

How does Crysis play? I understand GTA 4 and Mafia2 might be borderline for your system for a decent game experience but Crysis should not. How long is the Window Install, is it stable or you sometime get BSOD or random freezing. Do you use latest drivers? Try other games are they unplayable too?

SSD are nice but it have nothing to do with his problem. Dis you have SSD when Crysis came out? Did you have a 7950 too? No, but you still could play it smoothly at decent setting depending on your rig. I had a 8800GT and a E8200 when it came out and i played it a high/very high at 1050p resolution with at least 30fps. Thats my point his rig should be able to play it too, there is something wrong and it's not a missing SSD.

For a GTX 480, i say a Quality 550watt PSU minimum, 480's come with varying stock voltages...
I have a Point of View GTX 480 that shipped with 1050mv, whilst my EVGA runs at 1024mv, this has a dramatic effect on power consumption for Fermi cards.

If you want an idea of just how fast a GTX 480 is, here is my 480 at STOCK clocks smashing through Crysis.

Some DX 11 goodness:

^ This.

People get so ahead of themselves sometimes, thinking SSDs are the answer to everything.
