What about dual 7970's? If I'm going to go triple monitor I'd like to be able to play games on high settings. If I stick with just 3x24" monitors and sell my 670 I might have enough to buy two 7970's.
Nice! Let me know how it works out for you, I'm very interested since that's the kind of setup I'm looking for.

Dual 7970 is plenty to run triple monitors. assuming they are 1080p monitors....Yes max settings. Thats what I have for current setup.

But when I used Crossfire AND Eyefinity together, everything stopped working correctly. Vsync didn't work, everything stuttered (every single game I tried, I couldn't get a single game to run smoothly), there was one permanent tear line even on the desktop, games had terrible tearing (worse than what you usually see with vsync off)... clean installs of Windows, all driver versions, spent weeks troubleshooting... nothing. So I sold them. There is a massive thread of people trying to figure it out with me. Basically if you can think of it, we tried it.

Most people don't have such problems, I don't believe - but I sure did. I wasn't very happy with the red team. Haven't had any problems since going green team again. I'm no fanboy, it worked great when it wasn't eyefinity/crossfire, and I would still suggest it for that. But I would be at least somewhat wary if going crossfinity. I like my green team because everything works without having to do nearly as much dicking around.

How are you liking Nvidia's triple monitor solution (Surround is what it's called right?). And would I be able to run it well adding a second 670FTW?

Sorry to hear about the issues. I have rarely had issues with either Eyefinity or running single monitor. Of course every setup is different.

I run on 5760x1200 with no issues (so far) sometimes. I personally get tired of playing on all three screens so I go back and forth between Eyefinity and single screen.

Dual 670s would do very well. They would run many games max, or close to max (assuming FXAA). I would suggest sticking with green team if you can afford it, as I haven't had any issues since switching. Again, I don't think my AMD experience was typical. Either way I love Nvidia Surround rolleyes.gif

They won't get flat 60 all the time (nor does my 690) but it's up to your tolerance. Some of my games I play very happily at 40-50 fps, especially console-ish ones. Tomb Raider was like this, but with the last beta drivers, it's gone 50s-60s - usually it just takes a week or two for the drivers to catch up to new game releases.

It worked fine with one card ^.^ - but I didn't buy two cards to disable one. Haha.

I agree. It would drive me nuts if I couldn't use both cards after I bought them.

I'm wonder if I really need a second GPU since I don't game that often (maybe once a week). Rather not spend another $500 on a second GPU + waterblock if I can get away with 1 card (I'm guessing a 7970 would be better than my 670FTW?) on medium settings every now and then.

Well, it would be quicker, I don't know about WAY quicker. Noticeable but not mind-blowing.
My vote is to get another 670, see if you can find one with a block on eBay or something. Or check out the marketplace. Or just get one and worry about getting a block later. You would be coming close to my 690 which can max most games.

Yes, I bought the 7970 in order to max out on one monitor, but later found deals on monitors and saw I cant max out on most games. But looks awesome, looking to buy another 7970 soon. To xssfire!! rolleyes.gif
