My beloved PC - Page 2

HI OP,

i am also struggling with ARMA2 and Arma3 for FPS with my current rig, i am dropping to FPS in the teens when there is lots going on.
Graphics are not the issue here but the CPU cycles. I have to admit that at least the ARMA3 Alpha runs slightly better.

you can try the append the following options to your exe

-cpuCount=6 (cpu cores to use ) -nosplash -maxmem=2047 (its the maximum memory that can be allocated by the engine) -exThreads=7 (max threads to use)

if you are using the steam version just copy the string and add it to the launch option under properties of the game. also try to disable post process effects, that gave some additional fps.

-cpuCount=6 -nosplash -maxmem=2047 -exThreads=7

I principally love my AMD but it seems that the ARMA engine in general doesnt like it much mad.gif

i am mad because i can play crysis 3 but not Arma2 the way i want

good luck

Is my mobo really that outdated I got it on the same time as the other components. Would it not be possible/safe to OC my phenom with my current mobo?

Furthermore getting a new mobo, wouldnt it just be more worthwhile to get a brand new PC? biggrin.gif

Either way, my point is, i'd really like to try out to see if I can fix this issue for "free" before spending a lot of money on it, (OC'ing etc) only if it's possible though.

Oh boy do I know how you feel, I literally LOVE what they did in Arma 3, and I am constantly busting myself sneaking back in there HOPING to get some decent gameplay going, although I always leave 20 minutes later crying because the lag is simply unplayable.

Can I add all 4 strings you mentioned the way you posted them to my start-up launch options? I have tried the CpuCount with no luck but the others, I havn't tried, I've currently got everything on the lowest possible settings which nets me about ~25 FPS that dips to around 15 sometimes, no real difference on higher GFX settings, same ****.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I'd honestly consider one that's newer and higher quality, just for the safety of your processor. You don't need a whole new PC because of a new motherboard, I got 2 new motherboards before I moved onto my Crosshair V Formula Z and I'm more than satisfied with it. I'd personally say that you can get a mild OC with that board, don't push the voltages too high though, that could lead to VRM problems, overheating, and maybe the death of your CPU if you push it to the high extremes frown.gif

His motherboard really isnt that bad though, if he was going to get a new mobo he should just wait and get a socket 1150 board when they come out for haswell. He still has 8+2 phase power, he just lacks VRM cooling. He could always add heatsinks, but as well just keep volts down. His board still is more then enough for 3.6-3.8ghz, if he could get 4ghz it would just be a bigger plus for him.

Really he just needs to have a decent cpu cooler.

That's true, but just because its an 8+2 doesn't mean it's quality. I'd rather have less phases, but with a higher quality on my board than an older set of VRM's that might have degraded possibly. A higher performance CPU cooler would probably be another really good option.

Sorry for reviving this topic already, since I got the answers I needed, on that note: THANKS everyone for your feedback, it's been VERY helpful, I cleaned out my PC for dust and whatnot and Arma 3 got updated and for some reason I run on steady 35 FPS now, which is playable for me, maybe some sorcery was involved, who knows? All I know is i'm satisfied for the time being!

By the way Fozzybear, the strings you mentioned I could add to my game launch options, the memory allocation string, why only 2000MB? Can I not decide to go say 4000? since i have 8000? or?

Thanks in advance!
